        fingers  wrapped  around  the  cup ,  steam  wafts  through  the  air  in  that  small  old  diner ,  where  they  once  sat  across  each  other  as  strangers .  she  remembers  it  all ,  days  spent  waiting ,  every  hour  inching  by ,  before  he  had  burst  into  her  life .  they  return ,  every  so  often ,  to  this  place ,  have  become  regulars  in  a  way .  the  same  black  coffee ,  sickly  sweet  with  all  the  sugar  she’s  added .  the  waitress  gone ,  replaced  by  a  younger ,  more  sprightly  girl .  the  crackling  radio  replaced  by  a  television ,  the  leather  seats  that  sink  under  their  weight . a  hand  creeps  over ,  to  take  his  and  alice  smiles .   ❛     --  feels  like  it  was  just  yesterday  . . .     ❜
