Let’s be clear : "Sithi Sithi" could well be a huge Umbhoqo hit, maybe a global one. First, there’s this massive syncopated beat, halfway between Barcardi classic “Township Funk” by Mujava and more contemporary SA sounds like Amapiano and Gqom. Then talented vocalist U-Girl delivers an unbelievable hook, reminiscent of Jamaican female dancehall tunes but with a typical Gauteng flavour. This is the sound of Umbhoqo, this is the sound of Skhothanes ! Then vocalists Fezela, Da Goons and Alligator are rapping their verses in a chill way, contrasting with the excitement of U-Girl’s chorus. “Sithi Sithi” means “We say”, and is described by its creators by being about nothing specific – a vibe was just flowing in the studio and the words came.
