I know the toy is “Breakaway,” but I’mm gonna be calling him “Getaway” throughout this whole thing.
I mentioned the packaging before, so I thought I would cover that a bit more.
The back of the box has a short little bio for Getaway, which reads:
With the DECEPTICONS(tm) rising, the AUTOBOTS(tm) power up with TITAN MASTER partners to stop them! AUTOBOT THROTTLE has a power source that boosts the speed of AUTOBOT BREAKAWAY enough to make him uncatchable!
I like to keep the backs of the boxes for reasons that aren’t clear to me and these boxes are nice for that. There are four tabs that wrap around to the back from the front that are held on with tape. Using a box cutter, you can easily cut the tape and not damage the back. There are two more piece of tape at the top and bottom that can easily be sliced and then the majority of the box is glued on to the front of the box. If you want to keep the front intact, my only advice is to not open the box ever.
Like the others in this line, Getaway has a stat card that I feel is inaccurate. His stats are (with Throttle):
I think Getaway should be at least a little more muscle? I don’t know how these stats are determined.
The actual toy is held in to the plastic with six plastic staples that are actually stretchier than a lot of the staples I normally encounter with these toys. It makes cutting them off much easier since you can stretch them to where you won’t damage the figure. His two guns are held in with one staple each.
Out of the box, he has nice sturdy standing legs and a color scheme that is a bit too white. Mostly, his arms are just too bare. He has a bit of detailing on the outside of the forearms but he’s still very plain.
A thing I don’t like is that his eyes and face and faceplate are all one color. I might paint his eyes differently when I have a bit so his eyes aren’t just lost in the rest of his face.
His guns were actually a bit difficult to stick in his hands, it was a very tight fit. Once in, they stayed nicely.
Here’s Throttle in his not-head mode.
He turns into a paint-starved car. At this point, you might notice that he’s just a repaint of Chromedome.
A car... with a gun.
As with the others in the Titans Return line (except Perceptor) Getaway’s pal, Throttle, can sit in the driver’s seat when Getaway is in his alt mode.
Now, I know what everyone really wants to know. Can Getaway smorch Skids? Well, no, their chests are too big and you can’t get their faces close enough. BUT! You can get them to sorta hold hands and gaze into each other’s eyes.
Romance!
While I am happy to have Getaway in my collection, I don’t recomment him above his mold-sharing-twin Chromedome. Chromedome had good color saturation that made him more visually appealing. I like the transformations for both of them and they both are easy to stand and have good rotation in their joints. Still, if you’re only going to get one, get Chromedome.
