,,,, Khalki/Adeli for the prompt thing,,,, "Has anyone ever told you that your eyes sparkle in the moonlight?"
HAHAHA THANK YOU LOVE THIS IS GONNA BE A BIT ANGSTY BUT WILL GET FLUFFY I SWEAR
Khalki had had enough. The days spent alone, or relatively alone. She found herself spending more and more time at the docks, wishing to be sailing or submerged in those merciless gentle waves.
The bad mood seemed so selfish and petty, which only made the dark-skinned woman's heart burn white-hot with her desire, guilt, and longing.
There she sat, again alone on the docks. The blood moon hanging overhead gave the ocean waters the illusion of being wine or blood. She did not notice or acknowledge the other body sitting next to her.
Adeli had truly felt awful. Ever since Nadia had called upon their service they had been swept up into an mysterious adventure. Nights upon nights they had to spend away from their friend Khalki. Someone, like them, who had lost most of their past and only had scars to remember them by.
Lately they had started to deeply worry for the red-haired woman, and not only because they were finding themself far away from her side.
Khalki is an easily angered, but passionate and loyal friend. If something even slightly bothered her or one of her friends she was ranting and yelling at whoever caused the incursion. Recently she's become closed off, distant. Adeli would find her watching them, only to turn away and leave the room before the other could speak. Having Julian attached to their side did not help the mater, even if they were just trying to help him figure out what was happening in this city.
All these nights they started to realize that Khalki had started to push herself further into the dark.
In those quick glimpses Adeli started to pick up on Khalki's emotions. The longing, the anger, the frustration. The way her muscles stayed tense and how her arms kept her guarded from anyone approaching.
The apprentice finally came to the realization that Khalki felt ostracized from their life. That she was feeling replaced by Julian. The pain that went through Adeli pulled some strings that finally turned on the light in their brain.
They loved her.
Adeli loved Khalki.
Not as friends or family. They wanted to hold her in their arms and exchange sweet words and soft touches.
That's how they found themself sitting next to Khalki on that dock, the moon's orange-red light dancing in her crimson eyes. Waves of grief and anger pulling back and forth like the waters beneath him.
Adeli hadn't even been greeted, and they didn't blame her. They were not even sure how to begin talking to her, how to apologize, how to comfort, how to tell her that they loved her.
"Has anyone ever told you that your eyes sparkle in the moonlight?"
Adeli's eyes widened as Khalki spoke, not even turning her own gaze from the sky above.
"Wha-" The mage started, but the woman kept speaking.
"I mean, they always do, but in the moonlight you can really see all the hope have. How much light is in you." Still she refused to look at them, a ghost of a frown on her features. Would this be it? Would Khalki be told just to stay out of their life or that she wasn't needed?
Adeli could not think of anything to say, their own cheeks starting to warm at the words spoken. Did she feel the same? Did she know of their feelings? Their throat felt swollen and filled with sea water, drying out their throat and choking out any words they tried to speak. Instead they slowly moved their hand to hers. They wanted to hold her hand, tell her that her own eyes reflected the beauty of the stars, that her voice was melodic like the sea. All they could do instead was lay their pinky over hers.
At least that stirred a reaction from Khalki, her body tensed for a moment, her eyes flicking over to Adeli before they widened, turning to face them fully.
"Hey... hey what's wrong?" Khalki's face contorted in worry, the fire in her eyes burning fiercely. Adeli's shoulders where hunched, their face furrowed in worry or sadness, and like hell would the former pirate let someone cause them any sort of pain. She hadn't noticed that in her own concern she had taken Adeli's hand fully into her own, her free hand cupping their freckled cheek. The mage's cheek warmed considerably at the woman's touch, their heart pounding in their ears as they watched Khalki with wide emerald eyes.
"I-"
No words could explain what was going through their head. They had too much to say and those with those crimson eyes boring into their own they could barely speak, let alone think.
Instead they used the position to their advantage.
They closed the distance, pouring the emotion of what they could not say into a kiss.
After a few seconds they started to panic, Khalki was stiff. They started to pull back to see the woman with wide surprised eyes. As an apology started to tumble from their lips when the woman pulled them back from the hold on their cheek. It felt right, it felt good, it made the two feel complete.
And when the two finally parted for air, both their eyes were sparkling with the stars.
