Anyway I’m gonna talk about Renfield bc he’s always on my mind so, cw for body horror, cannibalism, and corpse talk under the cut

Ren is from Inferno, and is the ‘mouser’ in Gordon’s Ridge, the main town the story takes place in. By mouser I mean he eats rats and mice after chasing them on all fours.

He’s not human! In-text no one is sure what he is (except his partner Jordan). He’s actually a parasitic worm that’s attached to the brain of his dead bf. Because of this, he looks anemic and kind of waxy. Like a bad embalming job.

Worms need to eat flesh to survive, and often eat people; they don’t see the issue and don’t distinguish between meats. They’re not human, after all, so that’s not part of their outlook.

He’s also not fully developed; worms like him live in large colonies where they all work to protect the egg clutches and stores of corpses kept preserved for the new worms to live in. However, he was separated from his family in 1700s Britain during one of the Jacobite wars (I can’t remember if I ever specified exactly) and began wandering trying to find them.

Instead he found his first partner, Justin, (who belongs to my partner) who later died, and Renfield switched his old corpse out for his boyfriend’s in an attempt to save him. It didn’t work.

Eventually he stowed away across the Atlantic and ended up in Boston in the 1800s, where he met Jordan. They entered a relationship and, when Jordan left their home, the two headed west.

Ren is very animated, and is mostly gentle, he loves petting soft animals, playing in the dirt, and basking. Another worm has referred to him as a ‘lamb with fangs’, as the gentle aspects of his personality contrast the part where he needs to hunt to survive, and is very good at killing.

He tries to befriend people, but humans interacting with him have their fight or flight response triggered because of the way he moves is just outside of normal for the human brain. Inhumans (the term for supernatural creatures) don’t have this problem.

Also! He just didn't have a name for a while, either he wasn't given one or he forgot it, but he just didn't have a name for a while (he probably went by pseudonyms). Then Jordan read Dracula to him and he latched onto the name Renfield. (as an in-universe reason why he's named that when in reality i named him that as a joke)

so i've been reading up on the vampire mafia story for a little bit now, and first of all? i am feral over this. i don't know how to express affection for this story normally but trust me, i am REALLY digging all of this.

all of these characters are super interesting to me, and i'm super excited to see more about them!!!! the time loop concept is SO interesting and i love how y'all are going about it!! also always good to see white supremacists getting fucking wrecked <3

i also love that louisa's occupation is listed as 'class traitor.' i love that for her.

okay so question time!! perhaps a bit nonspecific, but i wanna give you an opportunity to share anything you're particularly excited about, so! what's a development with this story that you're really excited about? if you don't want to spoil anything that's perfectly fine, i'm just curious and excited to hear! :D

honestly i'm most excited to try and get the story on the road in the first place. i have the Basic Skeleton and Concept, but it's about filling it all in and making sure that everyone in the cast has equal attention and equal growth (while reuben and feliks are my favorites in the cast, they did come first and have the most story to them, therefore, because they're technically JJBA OCs that i made in, like, early 2019. reuben is just the drunk guy that dio tests the mask out on in part 1, and feliks is the mafioso in the beginning of part 2 that encounters joseph. can you tell because of how the vampiric powers are structured that these guys have some heavy JJBA and madoka magica influence kljsdfklgjdklj)

i really do want to write out how reuben and feliks first meet in this story, because god. it's just... they just meet each other's eyes, and it's like time stops for them both. fucking. west side story's dance scene with tony and maria kind of deal. there's this pull towards each other that they can't really put their finger on, but they've met before. they had to have. why else would reuben feel so parched this late at night? why else would feliks talk to a stranger he'd normally just push away?

and oh, how right they are without truly realizing it until the metaphorical mirror fragments and shatters and showcases just how many lives they've lived.

Gerry is extremely unlikely to make the first move in most cases. He might start some more casual flirting up on his own, but he doesn't normally anticipate it going anywhere. Given his history with codependency and his self-awareness about it, he kind of assumes that people will always be less interested in him than he is in them, so he refrains from confessing too openly and too early. He's very much on his "telepathically figure out that I like you" bullshit, and I'm... sighs.

💚 = Does your muse get jealous easy?

Gerry does experience some issues with jealousy, but he doesn't really get wild and possessive about it. If anything, he gets very distantly jealous, kind of under the assumption that whoever he is interested in has other people that they like more and that they don't want him anymore, so he'll shrink away from them a little bit. And yeah, he thinks that sucks, but he's never wanted to make a nuisance out of himself. So, he is prone to having the occasional 'ah...' moment, watching his partner interact with others in a positive way, but he's also not one to cling to people and force them to stay. If they go, then they go, and he'll find some way to pick up the pieces after the fact.

I don't have a lot of those, but there is Patricia--aka Trish--from The Rose Librarians!

She's one of the librarians. She's strongly protective over Charlie, seeing him as a younger brother (even though he's older lmao), but doesn't really know how to express that. She often comes across as cold or even cruel, but near the end of the story, how much she cares really shines through.

HI hello it is late and i'm gonna head to bed soon, but since you requested some void-walker information i have come to deliver.

i'll give you the basic overview of them at least to start, because there's a lot i'm still figuring out asdjfkl; anyway!

void-walkers are supernatural/magical entities created for my WIP a modern ghost story, who've existed for centuries. essentially, they're immortals who were once regular humans, left permanently stuck in a state between life and death and unable to move on to any sort of afterlife that might be awaiting them. they also have some funky supernatural abilities, but those vary from person to person.

the term void-walker specifically refers to the idea that these beings exist between the realm of the living and other realms, known colloquially as 'the void.' essentially, the idea is that they 'walk' between life and the void.

also there's a few traits that can identify a void-walker, but the 'perfect' void-walker blends in with humans absolutely perfectly.

void-walkers can't reproduce or anything like that, and they are instead created through a very specific, intensive ritual. in short, the ritual requires five people to die in a very specific order, and the fifth person to die in that sequence becomes the void-walker. there's a bit more going into it (like how every person involved has to be connected in some way to the void-walker-to-be) but that's the basic gist.

however, it's very rare that the ritual is performed 100% correctly, and as such the 'perfect' void-walker is incredibly rare (or honestly might not even exist).

void-walkers can die, but they don't STAY dead most of the time. in their current state, they're effectively barred from 'passing on', so to speak, and so death is nearly always temporary for them. there is a way to completely kill a void-walker, but it's just as hard to accomplish as the ritual to create them.

aaand as a last note. void-walkers all have trans energy. all of them. there's only one possibly cis void-walker character so far and i'm side-eyeing her so fucking hard b/c i'm not sure.
