I made a limited edition of prints from the Korai series I worked on in Greece, and I'll be selling them next week at SF Zine Fest! All proceeds from these prints go to benefit education programs at SKOPART where I did my residency. Come and get 'em!

I planned on spending the weekend documenting the work I did at SKOPART. Instead I spent it watching lots of cartoons, riding my bike around SF, and catching up on sleep. I'll get to that other stuff later.

I can’t believe it’s already been a week at SKOPART. I came here with a clear plan, and while I’m sticking to it, I’m also learning to let go a little. Having the time (all day, every day) to make art is such an awesome opportunity, and I'm making the most of it by doing lots of experimenting. I’m learning more about my process, and in doing so making work I’m really excited about. It helps to be surrounded by other artists in the studio too, especially when they remind me that beach breaks are just as important as long studio days.

I spent the past two weeks in Athens, Naxos, Melanes, Moni, Halki, Ag. Ana, Delos, Mykanos, Ios, Mylopotas, Santorini, Perissa, Fira, Oia, and Milos. Today I’m back in Athens, and preparing for some serious studio time at SKOPART in Skopelos starting tomorrow. I’ve met some great Greeks, and learned so much about the history while in the midst of such a historic event! It’s very exciting to be in Greece right now. I’ve been concept mapping (and writing this) from a cafe in Syntagma Square. The press are everywhere, and the people are eagerly waiting to hear how the Greek Referendum votes will go.

I’m really looking forward to spending the next two weeks in the studios at SKOPART painting, making, and reflecting on all of these experiences.

I’m on my way to Greece! I fly into Athens, but I’ll be spending most of my time around the islands. To help me understand the geography, I made this little map. There are 6,000 islands and islets scattered in the Aegean and Ionian Seas, but only 227 are inhabitable. 

I’ll be in Greece for a month, spending the first half of my trip exploring, and the remainder at The Skopelos Foundation for the Arts. At SKOPART I’ll be working on a series of paintings that explore color by geographic region while documenting stories from the people in those communities. I’m so excited about this opportunity, and look forward to learning more about Greek culture.
