More Skullbania - and how

Honestly this is probably the second most profound aspect of the graphic novels versus the television series. And in a way I'm not sure if I think it's an improvement or detriment, just so much as an overall difference. Thing is we regularly see (and go, talk about, communicate with, and . . .) Skullbania in the television series. While instead we might get a small sequence at the beginning of each graphic novel and monsters and interference is constant, we don't have constant cut-a-ways to drool, don't have constant opening sequences, and we're not regularly getting conference calls or portaling. It's a credit to the show's presentation that this doesn't detract from the pathos when they dig into Fangbone’s refugee status.

But this does change the overall feel and presentation of the graphic novels versus the cartoon. Simply put, in the graphic novels Fangbone is stranded and alone.

This isn't played as profoundly as sometimes the show would at least as regularly though it does come up

Another instance would probably be Fangbone’s social position.

That said...

Meet the OG Mighty Lizard Clan

I mentioned this in passing but I got the names wrong. Yeah the older looking guy? That's the original GN Axebear but apparently he just wasn't cool enough to be a regular character for Disney XD. While I don't think that Gizzardfoot is the real base of CN Axebear I think the he and GN Axebear are meta fusion.

Gizzardfoot is probably the one who provides the best amount of body humor with regards to The Mighty Lizard Clan. Another fun fact is this is pretty much the first and last time we see either these guys in the graphic novels. ClapperClaw and Grimeblade will actually appear pretty much each time during the Skullbania segments of each graphic novel. This can even imply an off-screen Clan Massacre. Though they do talk about reuniting with the clansmen and I think even Axebear himself

Still just an interesting tidbit on how characters were adapted from the graphic novel, serving what purpose, and how they were changed or composited such as

Who's closest equivalent is a major difference/departure

As was mentioned in the AMA the television show needed MOAR!!!

Twinklestick was a key element here and his characterization, in line with the 80s barbarian fantasy for kids Fangbone proudly pays homage to (Muscu-LAR is He-man...I know No wai, right?). Also the 80s/70s fantasy movies that inspired them. Magical wizards had to be bumbling because.. well, one; they often are even in source material and real LIFE inspirations (mercury poisoning also combination scientist and fortuneteller so...), two; Yoda, and finally plot (aka why Lapis Lazuli MUST be indisposed in a fusion, barn, or a ball or neuroses). If they were reliably on the ball they would be *blatantly* convenient support staff and plot devices than seemingly inconvenient ones with some routine attachedr (also... boring without persona)

So the still goofy but with severity and some gravitas and serious introduction skullcap mountain wizard is replaced with the...likely number two reason*, if watching a random screencap or opening of Fangbone, the internet cartoon gushing circles passed Fangbone. Twinklestick with his “skinned unicorn/bullmoose” hat. Does seem a rather blatant “coming at ya, bro sis” from the staff to the - even by time of production likely established phenom or at least awareness of at the time, (let alone in conjunction with the aforementioned throwbacky reference) - rival My Little Pony.

[ETA] Just noticed on.. what is this fifth revision? Yeah like Twinklestick the Wizard IS associated with cats (look emblem on skullcap) interesting thing to carry over!

Still the change makes sense. In the GN Fangbone’s trip is very.. one way, in presentation, even if this is...modified by sequel volumes he never sees or directly communicates with home again. Only receive sometimes instructions or packages and often monsters.

Much MUCH different vibe than CN Fangbone’s “commonly skypes with village idiot wizard who ALSO holds him as important” as to GN practically being dismissed and so, as part of his character arc having something to prove with the first volume.

*The first reason would be the intentional boyish/body-grossout humor. A quality that seemed to scuttle or wave off or always brought up as a negative in and of itself even by folks not openly condemnative of it (Cellspex, @mrenter Pieguyrulz)

I meant decorating it with trinkets, skulls, etc. as time goes on, it becomes harder to move in it (as any normal gown with skulls on it would be) which is the point since the barbarian is retiring!
