Despite avoiding every year previously, Clarke decides to go to the Unity Day dance for the Ark's teenagers. It seemed like a mistake while she stood alone, until she spots an Ark Guard casually watching the dancers and smiling. Walking up to speak to him changes everything. Clarke and Bellamy meet on the Ark and eventually Bellamy becomes Clarke’s guard in the Sky Box. This causes a ripple effect through Season 1 & 2 until an eventual disembark from the original story line.
So we had the first 2 eps of the 100 season 3 and the story line has been set. We have 3 different groups who are going to fight for power.
We have Tri Kru with Lexa who wants to keep all the people united even though their common enemy has died.
We have the Sky Kru who as a group just wants to survive but will be divided by the different ways they want to survive.
And we have the Ice Nation who want to replace Tri Kru as leading group and probably make one of their own Heda.
In the next episode it seems that the Ice Nation is going to make their first play for power. The promo shows someone telling Bellamy that the summit is a trap. And his people will die at sundown.
I think this is someone from the Ice Nation (maybe even their queen? Wasn’t she one of the grounders in mount weather everyone listened too and someone Bellamy met and thus would trust?)
Why is the Ice Nation doing this?
Divide and Conquer.
Right now the Tri Kru and Sky Kru are close, both groups have powerful leaders (Heda and Wanheda) and causing any tension between these groups is good for Ice Nation.
Ice Nation is outnumbered right now and they have no way of attacking the other group leaders. But Ice Nation could try to install one of the groups with a new leader who listens to them and is easy to manipulate. That way you create a power play in one group, and that would weaken the whole coalition between Sky Kry and Tri Kru.
From the season 3 trailer we know that Bellamy is going to become at odds with Octavia and Octavia says .
“My brother is one the wrong side.”
We also hear Bellamy’s speech voice when he is saying
“I have always done what is best for us, I need you to trust that I am doing that now.”
I think that the Ice Nation is going to use Bellamy and maybe even Pike to divide the Tri Kru and the Sky Kru and while that’s going on the Ice Nation will try and wipe out Sky Kry and make one of their own Heda.
Lexa is desperately trying to keep the peace. It’s why she needs Clarke. Clarke in the eyes of the grounders is the leader of Sky Kru. Having Clarke bow to her is a symbol of the strength of the coalition. Too bad Clarke is not the leader of the Sky Kru according to the Sky Kru.
Bellamy and Clarke are going to at odds about their leadership, their leadership was strong when they were at war, but war is over now. Now is the time for peace and Bellamy does not know how to lead in a time of peace. Neither does Clarke but Clarke knows the price of war as no other. Clarke knows how to see the big picture better than Bellamy.
Bellamy if very focused on what is best for him and his people, but what Bellamy needs to realize that he can’t lead like that anymore. He will realize that, I think. We hear a voice over of Kane saying.
“You were trying to save lives.”
and Bellamy saying.
“But I didn’t.”
It will cost him.
It will also be devastating for any future coalition between Tri Kru and Sky Kru with lots of deaths on both sides. Which will weaken the Tri Kru’s numbers which will give the Ice Nation a chance to defeat them in a full blown war and install one of their own as Heda.
But a common enemy could strengthen the coalition again. And look who is coming back from the promised land? It’s Jaha with A.L.I. and well that’s a surprising fourth group which will probably play a big role in the second part of the season.
tl;dr: Ice Nation is going to use a age old tactic of divide and conquer to weaken Sky Kry and the coalition between Tri Kru and Sky Kru. They will use Bellamy for this which is going to cause a rift between Bellamy and his sister and Bellamy and Clarke. By the time someone realizes what happened the Ice Nation will probably have caused so much hate and tension between Tri Kru and Sky Kru that they will not have a coalition for a lot of years. Lots of deaths which will give the Ice Nation the numbers to win a war against Tri Kru and a chance to install one of their own as Heda. But look over there! It’s Jaha with his world destroying “god”. The enemy of my enemy is my friend and all groups will be forced to fight together again.
