Cal had never been new aboard a ship. Not since he was at a tender age of twenty-four, too young to really understand the universe. And the Israx built up around him, his old ship as privy to change and grow as he did over the years. This ship, the Prosperity, the name that his parents would often spit from their tongues as if they were eating something particularly nasty, was already built up. Already formidable in her own right. And now that he was inside it for the first time, getting a good look at the large, legendary ship, all he could feel was...
Bored.
So this was it, huh? It just looked like any goddamn large ship. This was really going to be his home for the foreseeable future. Cool, great. He met the captain: Daphne Rux, heiress to Rux Enterprises. Hot, but he learned the hard way not to go there with other captains. He met the first mate: Robin Astrea, son of Alisz Astrea, rich family known for smuggling. He had a stick up his ass just like his mother, and a flicker of judgment on his face when he looked at Cal's resume. Whatever.
Now he headed to the engineering room on his own to find the chief engineer "Skylar" and get a comm, and then he'd be assigned a "pod," and then he'd find his new desk. And then maybe after that he'd locate Lix again and talk her into getting dinner and a drink with him. Heavy on the drink. The engineering area wasn't too difficult to locate—it was located in an area of the ship that made sense with the likely amalgamation of the inner parts—and looked around for someone who might be named Skylar. Also not hard to find: there was a man in a big office, so, yeah, made sense. Maybe in his hundreds, brown hair, casual demeanor, attractive...and also weirdly familiar, though he couldn't really place him.
He gave a single knock on his doorframe. "Hey, name's Cal Lucerniis. I'm supposed to get a comm from you or something..." he couldn't help but squint at the guy, trying to decipher if he knew him or not. Whether he knew him from somewhere was an itch he couldn't quite scratch.
