Summary: Bailey has to leave Ohio to live with her grandmother in Maine, and so she calls up Skylar to confess something that she had to say before she left.
Notes: Completed on Chatzy. This is the last Skyley Para that there will be.
Picking up a phone shouldn't have to take this much courage. Bailey shouldn't have to be doing this, she shouldn't have to be moving, nor should she have to be calling someone and just laying this kind of news on them. But she also had to, because it wasn't exactly her choice of moving, although it was her choice to call. And so here she is, staring at her phone, her finger hovering above the call button. With shaky hands she presses the call button, almost immediately regretting it, but no matter when she did this or not she knew she'd always regret it.
Skylar was confused when she saw her phone light up with Bailey's number. First of all, she wasn't sure why Bailey would be calling her. They hadn't talked in a while, and while she was certainly starting to get worried about the girl, she was also so distracted that it had slipped her mind to keep in contact with Bailey. She easily answered the phone and placed it to her ear, with a soft, but perky, "Hello?"
"Skylar, hey..." Bailey winced at how shaky her voice was. She knew she should have kept more in contact with Sky, which she did, just not always under her actual face. Which is, sadly, how she talked to Skylar the most. "Um...I have something to tell you." That probably sounded stupid, because why else would she be calling if she didn't? "I'm...moving...and...." How would she even word this?
Skylar furrowed her brow at what Bailey was saying. Why was she moving? "Wait.. You're moving? Why? Where?" She got up off her bed to start to pace the room, something she did when she was having a troubling conversation. She didn't talk to Bailey that much but she still cared about the girl. "Bailey? What's going on?" She knew that the move had to be sudden, because Fabian hadn't said anything to her about it, and neither did Brittany.
A small smile crosses Bailey's face as she hears Skylar reply, but quickly leaves as she realizes that it's not the happiest of tones. Why would it be, anyway? "Yeah, I'm moving to my grandmas in Maine. I don't know why, my parents won't say, but it's kinda urgent." A sigh escapes Baileys lips and she rolls he fabric of her shirt between her fingers. "But that's not why I called, not really...I called because..." A lump forms in Baileys throat, "Because I really, really think I actually sort of...kind of...likeyou." Bailey rushes out the last part, hoping she didn't come off as a weirdo or a freak.
It took a moment for Skylar to comprehend what Bailey had just said. She was moving to Maine.. and she.. She liked her? That was a first from her, hell, even London was a first. "Wait.. You, you like me?" She ran a hand through her dark hair and sat down in a chair. She needed to process this quickly, because she knew how she felt about Bailey. It was always there since she met her.. but she never acted on it. "Really?"
"Yeah, really..." She clenches her fist, taking a handful of the bottom of her shirt with her. She shouldn't have done this, it was a long shot to think Skylar would like her back. No, she couldn't like her back, which is probably why she called, just so it wouldn't hurt as much never knowing. But if she does, what does that mean? Because long distance stuff never work... "Skylar, you still there?" Bailey's voice echoes through her room.
I... Yeah.. I'm here..." She let out a shaky breath and leaned back in the chair. She couldn't believe it. The girl she liked- that she knew wouldn't hurt her- liked her back, but she was going away. This was just like before, all over again.. Before she died, anyway. She shook her head. "Yeah, I'm here. I just..." She repeated, taking a deep breath. "I... Bailey, I-..." She didn't know how to say it, how to put it in words because she knew she'd never get a chance. "I like you too."
isn't supposed to hurt, is it? "You do?" Fuck her parents, fuck her nan, fuck whatever was making her move. Fuck everything. "Is this supposed to hurt?" She didn't mean to ask that, but was it? Really, she felt happy, but anger and sadness mix in there too. "I probably shouldn't have done this, right? I mean, do t get me wrong, I'm really happy you like me, but..."
She moved to her bed and laid down, tears coming to her eyes. "I.. I don't know.. I..." She couldn't find the words to say as she fought back tears. This wasn't supposed to happen this way. "It's okay that you did... I... I'm glad you told me, actually.." Her heart was hurting even though it shouldn't of been. This was all too much for her, it was like she was being physically ripped apart.
"I'm really sorry for all this. I'm sorry that I'm moving..." Bailey bites her lip, hearing movement outside of her door. It was probably her parents packing. She knew she should be packing too, but she was in too much emotional pain right now to pack.
Skylar bit her lip hard and wiped at her eyes, trying to not make it seem like she was crying. "I... Don't be sorry, Bailey..." She knew she shouldn't even be feeling like this. She was still in an on/off thing with London, but she had always had a thing for Bailey. It just wasn't fair. "Don't be sorry.. It's okay.."
"It's not, though. I wish I wasn't moving, I wish I could just run away and come back when my families gone." A small knock at her door made Bailey jump and she knew her mom knew that she wasn't packing. It isn't like she cares though. Holding the phone away from her and covering the receiver, she shouts "Yeah, I know mom," And then she waits for a reply before putting it back to her ear.
"As much as I want that too... It... It's not that easy.." She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down. She didn't know why she was getting so emotional over this- it wasn't like Bailey was her girlfriend. Although, if it was this hard when she wasn't, she didn't want to know how it felt like if she was. "What sucks is that I can't see you before you go.."
Bailey releases a breath she forgot she was holding as Sky talked, "I know." Bailey stands, pacing through the small area between her bed and the wall. This sucked more than most the girls at their school on the weekends. "I wish you could, really I do." Bailey stops pacing and closes her eyes, gripping her phone tight. "I'm supposed to be packing right now." She lets out a small laugh, sighing afterwards.
Skylar couldn't help but smile at what Bailey said. Of course she would be talking to her instead of packing. "Do you.. Do you think you could sneak out? Or something?" She knew it was a lot to ask of the girl but she had to see her. "I.. I just..." She sighed and wiped at her eyes again. "I really need to see you, Bailey."
"I doubt I could, my parents are really high strung about this. I don't know..." As much as Bailey wanted to, her parents were much stronger minded than her about this. They were jumpy and angry and quite frankly...they scared her. With a look to her door and around her room, she lets out a final sigh, "I'm sorry."
Skylar sighed and nodded to nobody in particular. "I understand." She chewed on her lip and bit back the rest of the tears. She had so much she wanted to say, so much she wanted to do and she'd never get the chance. She really wanted to see Bailey and she wanted nothing more than to see her, than to hold her one last time. "Don't be sorry, I shouldn't of asked.."
"I don't wanna go, I don't...but I have to. And I need to pack or my stuff is staying here." A sharp intake of breath makes Bailey feel a bit dizzy as she sits back down. "I'll see you sometime, Skylar." Before she can regret it or have the other girl say anything she hangs up. Should she have done that?
Skylar looked at the phone, seeing that Bailey had hung up. She finally let the tears fall and laid back on the bed, letting out a soft sob. She couldn't believe that Bailey was actually leaving- that she was going to be one friend less by the end of the week.
Her mom called for her to start packing again and Bailey sighs, throwing her phone onto her bed and standing up again. She sniffs back tears, grabbing a box from the other side of her room and starting to pack. She was actually moving...away from everyone...
Skylar took a deep breath and calmed herself down. She looked at her window and bit her lip, not thinking as she made her way over and out of it, climbing down the nearby tree, and took off in the direction of Bailey's house. She had to see her one last time. She had to. She found which window was Bailey's, and, climbed up another tree to tap on the girl's window.
The tap scared her from her place near her cd's. She places a Fall Out Boy cd into the box she has placed at her side. "Sky?" Her eyebrows are furrowed as she opens up her window, "What are you doing here?"
Skylar couldn't help but smile softly as she looked at Bailey. "I... I had to see you... If.. If you couldn't come to me, I just.. came to you." She shrugged softly and chewed on her lip.
Bailey lets out a laugh, looking into Skylar's eyes. "Of course." It comes out in a murmur, the smile on her face barely allowing it to come out at all.
Skylar smiled and leaned a little closer so she could see Bailey easier. "Sorry if I'm stopping you from packing." She pushed her hair behind her ear and shrugged a little.
"I honestly don't care, it pretty boring. Although, I did find my Sherlock DVDs under my bed." Bailey transfers her weight onto her other hand, causing her to get closer to Skylar.
Skylar nodded in understatement as she leaned on the windowsill a little bit. "Can... Can I try something?" She quirked her head to the side slightly and bit her lip.
"Sure." Bailey nods, not breaking eye contact. Her mind runs a million miles an hour as she sees Skylar lean in.
Skylar chewed her lip for a moment before she cupped Bailey's cheek gently, and leaned in to press her lips to the other girl's.
Bailey pushes into the kiss lightly, a content sigh escaping through her nose. She'd be lying if she said she hadn't pictured this before.
Skylar carefully deepened the kiss, finally feeling content for once. It was something she didn't really feel with London.
Bailey's thoughts completely vanish, if only for a few minutes. All she could think about was the way Skylar smelled and the way her lips moved against hers.
She leaned forward a little more, her free hand (she was supported by a tree branch) grabbing Bailey's shirt to pull her closer. She wanted more, especially if this was the last time she'd ever see Bailey. She was about to climb through the window and push her against her bed when she heard a faint knock, but didn't pull away.
Bailey hears the knock, but doesn't care to respond. She snakes one of her arms around Skylar's neck and is to break the kiss and invite her in when she hears a gasp from the other side of the room. She quickly breaks the kiss and turns her head towards the other side of the room. Her mom starts yelling at the both of them, telling Skylar to get out and Bailey to continue packing.
Skylar's frown couldn't deepen any more, and she felt the tears stinging again as she saw Bailey listen to her mother. With a sigh, she waved goodbye to Mrs. Pierce, called Bailey back for one last peck on the lips, and departed down the tree to sprint back to her house, and break down as soon as she got into her room. She wouldn't see Bailey again, and if that didn't kill her over again then she didn't know what will.
