TeamComm just successfully wrapped up its first BIGTIME event of the year with the main crew of the upcoming film Tuhog at Y408 yesterday. Director Ronnie Velasco, Writer Jinky Laurel, and one of the film’s main actors, Enchong Dee, all came to promote and talk about their upcoming film with Star Cinema and Skylight Films, as well as shed light on the impending new genre of MaIndie films.
The forum was attended by a lot of interested students as they asked question after question about the film and the Philippine film industry. As discussed by the guests, MaIndie is a forthcoming genre as Star Cinema gave birth to sub-branch Skylight Films; the films are only mainstream in funds and promotions, but independent in concept and plots. The team stated that the network is aware of the public’s change of taste and that although they do have a lower budget and may be quite a risk concerning its plot, they are confident with having Star Cinema’s network and machineries behind their backs and the wide array of preferences they have from their target market.
Having worked together in previous projects, all three guests were able to answer every question with confidence, encouraging the audience to participate more in the discussions. Director Velasco believes that any kind of filmmaking, may it be mainstream or indie, will help our country’s film industry and so they ask for everyone’s help in supporting these kinds of films to let everyone be aware of its message.
Tuhog is a film that showcases three nonlinear stories pierced into one whole plot about three characters played by Eugene Domingo, Leo Martinez and Enchong. The film began to premiere yesterday, July 17 so don’t forget to catch it in the nearest theaters near you!
