Leanne knew that many of the songs she sung were soothing. They could make the soul feel light and tired, stripping away worries and stress. It was the very reason she sung for him, to give him a much needed moment of relief from his woes.
When the raven’s weight slumped further, she knew he had fallen asleep. At her suggestion and coaxing, Leanne had convinced him to rest his head on her lap while she sang him a song. He kept refusing, telling her that being so forward was going to make Reyson burst an artery, but she was far more stubborn than he was. She always got her way.
The Heron’s fingers sifted into his dark silky hair as he fell into slumber. she smiled softly as she finished her song, letting the last notes ring tenderly in a whispered tone.
He looked so peaceful here. No acts, no pretenses, no obligations, no guilt. Just him...
For a moment, he looked like the younger man he used to be. Before her long sleep, and before he was a king. When they were two budding youths taking long walks in the Serenes gardens and sneaking out to the cliffs of Kilvas.
Leanne continued to pet his hair gently, her other hand resting on his chest. She could feel the light, sleepy thumps of his heart as she caressed his hair and face.
