I choose What if Flirting is part of work? by @skyyguy. It's such a funny moment of Bucky teasing Gale and Curt being there for the ride. I love reading Sky's writing and all their AUs. Their characters never fail to capture me and they write whump scenes amazingly well and, as you can see in this fic, they also manage to do sweet and funny fics too. So here's Bucky leaning over the fence to flirt with Gale.

Anyways, like the other one i did this just chucks yall in in the middle of a scene.

“Gale. John. I am so unbelievably happy for you both. I see the way that you look at each other and I see a long, happy future ahead of you.”

“Thank you, Mama.”

Later, when the sun has gone down and Gale is sitting with John and Virginia on the fire escape, the siblings passing a cigarette between them, he finally starts to feel that nervous knot in his stomach start to untangle. It’s chilly, but it’s better than being inside, in the living room with their parents.

Gale feels a little bit like a teenager again.

“You know, Gale,” Virginia looks at him, breaking the companionable silence. “Your mom thought you were never going to get married.”

He blinks at her as the words process in his head.

“What?”

“You never really dated, never even seemed interested in anyone, just followed Johnny around like a puppy,” She shrugs, blowing a ring of smoke into the night. “I guess now that makes sense, given the circumstances.”

“How do you even know that?” John asks, nudging her leg with the toe of his shoe.

“Once I had a kid, I hit that level of adulthood where other, older adults stopped censoring themselves. I’ve learned so many weird family secrets. It’s a blessing and a curse.”

To Gale, that sounds far more like a curse than a blessing.

He'd always been good at reading the differences in John's voice. Just from the tone of his voice, he had always been able to tell when John was tired, when there was something bothering him, when he was feeling a little bit down. It had been a while since he'd heard the thick slur in John's voice that he recognised now, though, and he knew straight away that the older man was drunk.

He put his hands in his pockets as he headed back towards their combine, although he did overhear Brady asking DeMarco "Why'd you have to mention Bucky? "

He wouldn't wish the way he felt whenever he thought about John on anybody.

Being with John had made him happy in ways that he didn't even realise he could be.

As terrible as it was, part of him almost wished that he knew for sure that John was dead, because at least he'd know.

He pressed the heels of his hands hard against his eyes to hold back the tears, even as his body was wracked with the urge to cry his eyes out.

He'd never felt so thoroughly consumed by another person, so completely surrounded by love, and want, and hunger, and passion.
