Slaugth

What do different xeno species taste like?
Tyranids: Lemon-dipped lobster.
T'au: A lean meat. Like kangaroo or veal.
Orks: Burned enoki mushrooms.
Kroot: Over-seasoned turkey.
Aeldari: Pulled pork.
Drukhari: Pulled pork with way too much pepper on it.
Harlequins: Skittles in ranch dressing.
Necrons: You ever licked a battery? That.
Laer: Immaculately rich, tender crocodile meat. And radiation.
Slaugth: Couscous when steamed appropriately. Actually, they're extremely delicious! But good luck!
Megarachnids: Chicken, obviously.
If anyone in 40k other than Our Friend The Hive Mind is extragalactic, my money’s on the Slaugth.
The distances between galaxies are vast, and with no life there a lot of people speculate that the Warp is likely hard to get through there…but the Slaugth are basically immortal, and like the only known canon extragalactic race, they don’t rely on Warp travel.
Additionally, we’ve seen the Slaugth in two places: Calixis, on the edge of the Imperium near the Halo Stars, and accompanying the Rangdan on the Eastern Fringe. That is to say, the guys with the likely ability to cross the intergalactic gulf just so happen to chill at the very edges of the galaxy.
If I were to guess, they lurked in the Halo Stars and other regions during the time of the DAoT and late Aeldari Empire, then made their play after both factions fell: Calixis is ignored by the Eldar, who see it as cursed, whereas the Rangdan seem to have been the Carthage to the Imperium’s Rome. The Slaugth, low population puppetmasters that they are, colonised the local Rangda to make a play for galactic dominance but had their stab for hegemony broken by the Great Crusade, and have since schlepped back to the galaxy’s edge to bide their time.
well then you have the “they’re bad news to psykers and their weapons & non-Warp FTL seems oddly similar to necron shit, as does the Eldar finding their favourite haunt ‘cursed’”…
…but I suppose there’s room for more than one theory out there.
+++Datafile: Malak, Boros+++
Age: unknown
Astartes primogeniture: unknown
Chapter origin: unknown
Homeworld: unknown
Distinguishing features: bionic enhancements over 95% of his body, blue line tattoo on remaining flesh on his skull, artificial voice, signs of rejection of bionics on remaining flesh (discolouration of skin)
Known information: currently in service to Lord Inquisitor Byzant, although the origins of the Astartes and how he came into the service of said Lord Inquisitor is unknown. A mysterious individual, although it is noteworthy to state that for a 'firstborn' Astartes, his height is on par with most Primaris Astartes. The unfamiliar markings upon his armour and the tattoo are of cultural significance to Boros, but where these are from is unknown to Imperial Lexicon experts.

Boros silently waited, crouched, his power armour locked into place to steady the aim of his modified MkIII Shrike pattern Bolt Sniper Rifle. His vision had been greatly enhanced by the bionics he had been implanted with which, when coupled with the further technological marvels contained within the scope of his rifle, provided him with ample information on all factors that could influence his shots at this range.
Switching to thermal, he can see the heat emitting from engines of the large, armoured vehicles that the Lord Inquisitor's allies used. Slightly larger than a Taurox, but better armoured. He felt the unease as, below him, the Kharon pattern Acquisitor drifted by, carrying the Lord Inquisitor and his retinue. His gaze switched back to the compound, seeing some frantic movement in the windows of the compound.
Then he saw it.
A cloaked figure moving on the compound's roof. This was no mere cultist or heretic. It's unnatural gait gave it away, it did not move like a human. He watched as a human came up to it, dragging themselves up to it. The human blurted something out before it was struck by the cloaked figure. The human pulled itself up and headed back indoors, pressing the icons on the panel to open the sole access door. The figure, looked out and down to the amassing forces forming up outside it's compound.
"I have eyes on the target" he said, over the vox-channel that had remained silent, "target is on the roof of the compound. I have potential to isolate it."
A grating voice responded: "Take the shot".
"Affirmative."
Boros briefly monitored the cloaked figure, who was still monitoring the build-up, then pointed his rifle to the access door, zooming in on the panel. Taking milliseconds to calculate wind speed, curvature of the planet and gravity into his shot, he pointed his rifle up and slightly to the left. He pulled the trigger. The round impacted the panel less than a second later and detonated, blowing out the electronics within.
"Target is now trapped on the roof of the compound" he checked to see the reaction of the target, which was at the access door and clearly trying to gain the attention of someone inside. "Requesting air support?"
"Air support granted" responded the same voice from before, "Paint the target."
Using a powerful infrared beam, emitted by his sniper rifle, he lit up the figure on the roof. The figure noticed the seemingly invisible beam, if it were human it would have been unaware but... It looked at its 'hand' with the point of the laser on it then turned its head to face Boros. Maggots writhed under that hood.
A brief image of a horrific battlefield, strange columns of flesh with long spiny protrusions drifted through the air, grabbing the dead and living, devouring them. In the distance a heroic figure, taller than him, smashed a cereb... A thrumming rotor blade stirred him from this brief recall, the air support arrived. A rare Scythe-pattern gunship, retrofitted with two twin-linked Volkite culverins and missile pods under the wings, and a lascannon on the nose, opened fire with a barrage of heat rays and then demolished half the building with incendiary missiles.
It should surely be dead? The inferno should swallow it.
The Slaugth
necron can't get pet worms because worms die so quickly - but they can befriend an ageless slaugth!
slaugth-necron alliance
slaugth are some of the longest-lived non-Warp-based (organic) lifeforms known to live in the galaxy, which means they are more equal to the necron and can understand their timescales better. at the same time, slaugth seem to have a better grasp of rapidly evolving situations / "fleshbag time" (as opposed to having an argument for several terran years nonstop), as implied by their ability to infiltrate human societies and direct human agents, which can complement necron extreme longterm perspectives
slaugth seem to infiltrate and info-gather a lot, preferring to act against their enemies covertly, while necron favor more destructive, obvious and direct methods of warfare. necron don't usually need significant infiltration or recon capacity, but there are some situations that warrant covert methods
slaugth are also psykic, although the power level(s) they can reach are a bit unclear, so they are like the eldar except without millenia-long beef with the necron. therefore, slaugth can patch the weakness of necron inability to naturally/innately harness psykic power or reach into the Warp, and necron can complement slaugth psykic abilities with tactical blackstone use
slaugth are said to be very durable and hard to kill, with most organic species being comparatively flimsier, complimenting the necron who aren't entirely in tune with organic limitations and making the logistics of sustaining slaugth less challenging for necron, who are used to almost-needless synthetic servants
slaugth appear to have relatively good understanding of science and technology [and no known hangups surrounding it(s use)], which, coupled with their long lifespans, makes them productive to teach in wielding necron technology from the perspective of ageless necron, if any cryptek assents to teaching a slaugth
and the purported durability of slaugth means they can better survive in the hostile and extreme environments that necron tomb-worlds tend to be
conclusion: the necron and the slaugth are a potential teamup with a lot of utility and relative ease of integration [as compared to necron-tau, necron-kroot, necron-eldar et al.]
