DWIGHT DEAL Nottingham Forest will move for former West Bromwich Albion striker Dwight Gayle in January, according to reports. Sabri Lamouchi’s side were among a host of Championship clubs who wanted to sign Gayle in the summer transfer window but the 29-year-old stayed at Newcastle United. Gayle returned to Newcastle after his season-long loan stint ended in play-off heartbreak when Albion were beaten by eventual winners Aston Villa in May. Technical director Luke Dowling publicly revealed after that that the club were unable to convert Gayle’s loan into a permanent stay because of financial constraints. The Welshman, who committed his future to the club last week, was the hero at Middlesbrough when he hopped off the bench to prod home the winner in the closing stages of the game. The goal itself came after determined build up play involving loanees Pereira and Diangana, who have both already made their mark in this Albion side after arriving on transfer deadline day from Sporting Lisbon and West Ham respectively. Along with Matt Phillips, Filip Krovinovic and Kyle Edwards, competition in that particular department of the squad is stern, but it’s driving the best form out of those currently in possession of the shirts. READ MORE TYKE TROUBLE Barnsley caretaker manager Adam Murray is tipping his inherited Tykes to ‘ruin the party’ at West Brom on Tuesday evening. The newly promoted Yorkshire outfit are at the bottom of the Championship table as they visit Slaven Bilic’s high flying Albion, fresh from taking a point off the Baggies’ promotion rivals Swansea at Oakwell on Saturday. They head to The Hawthorns huge underdogs, though. Albion won again at Middlesbrough over the weekend and will fancy their chances to extend their lead at the top of the division against a side who haven’t won since the opening weekend of the season and who are already three points adrift of safety. According to The Athletic , Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Marseille have put the Baggies full-back “on their radar”. Ferguson’s current deal at The Hawthorns expires in the summer, and it is also being claimed that talks over a new contract are underway but not at advanced stage. Leeds United have also been linked with Ferguson. READ MORE LISTEN, HAMMERS As Elton John and Kiki Dee once sang together, so we’ll repeat, with a footballing flavour: “West Ham United, don’t go breaking my heart.” There might’ve been defensive deficiencies and question marks over the set-up, but West Brom’s front three were stealing the show week on week twelve months ago. Dwight Gayle was up and running and Jay Rodriguez was joining the fun, while Harvey Barnes took your breath away. Then Leicester City took Barnes himself away, in January, as desperate Claude Puel attempted to arrest a poor run of results and cling onto his job. READ MORE PROMOTION ODDS The Championship was back to its unpredictable best with only four of the top ten winning over the weekend. West Brom and Leeds United were the big winners as both claimed vital 1-0 wins to move themselves further into the thick of promotion race. The Baggies extended their lead at the top of the table whilst the Whites moved up to second after seeing off Birmingham City. And the latest odds reveal that bookmakers are still tipping Leeds to lift the title in May, with Slaven Bilic’s side a close second. The summer imports have been, largely a roaring success; Romaine Sawyers, Semi Ajayi, Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana are among a crop of stars who have already made themselves invaluable to the way Albion operate. Pereira, Diangana and Charlie Austin all arrived in the nick of time on transfer deadline day, as did young attacker Chris Willock. Sky Bet Championship side West Bromwich Albion have appointed Slaven Bilic as their new Head Coach, the club have now confirmed. The club had been on the lookout for a new manager following the dismissal of Darren Moore back in March – James Shan took over until the end of season, but was unable to guide the Baggies back into the Premier League. It has now been confirmed, though, that former West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic is the new Head Coach of the club, signing a two-year deal upon his arrival at The Hawthorns. The Croatian is mostly known for his time at West Ham, where he won 42 out of 111 games in charge of the Hammers between 2015 and 2017. The 50-year-old’s most recent job came with Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad, where he won only three out of 15 games in charge of the Middle Eastern club. Bilic was a roaring success whilst in charge of the Croatia national team, though, winning 42 out of 65 games in charge of his country, famously defeating England at Wembley as Steve McClaren’s side failed to qualify for the European Championships in 2008. West Brom will be hoping for a bright future under Bilic, as they look to go one step further in their quest for Premier League football next season. The Verdict I think that Bilic, on the whole, is a shrewd appointment for the Baggies. His time at West Ham turned for the worse in the latter stages of his tenure, and his spell in Saudi Arabia just didn’t seem to work out at all, but he has very decent pedigree as a manager and has a huge amount of experience. He will be eager to right his previous wrong, and will have learned a lot of lessons about his time at West Ham. #WestBrom #SlavenBilic #SkyBetChampionship
