Slavery In America (1619-1865) Why Do You Keep Asking Us To Forget Our History When You Don't Ask Others To Forget Their History?
A poem for you
I never knew
How stubborn this thing is
How it persists
That it’s better than anything
That it knows everything
That there’s somewhere to arrive at
That it is really really important
That the sky will fall with out “I”
That the sun won’t rise
That the birds won’t Chirp
and the opposite of EVERYTHING in that song from “Rent”
Why is it so persistent
That it never stops talking
That it is so strong,
Yet so disguised
That I recognize it as my own thought.
I now know,
But this knowing lasts a moment
and then it keeps talking
and like a battered wife
my eyes glaze over,
and I say yes of course
and I act as if
everything it tells me is the truth.
