Kanao looked over at him, blinking her wide violet eyes, before she turned her eyes instead to the flowers. Kanae was always fighting in a way that reminded Kanao of flowers. She looked from the flowers back up at Haru.

Haru was gentle and patient. Kanao liked spending time with him out in the gardens. She felt very safe with him, and he never made her feel like she was getting in the way.

She wondered if the plants in the garden grew better for him, because they too knew he was kind and patient, and would wait for them to bloom.

Kanao fished out her coin and flipped it. Heads.

"Can you show me how to help in the gardens?" she asked him. She had already been asked to leave the kitchen, and the infirmary, too in the way. But perhaps out here she could find a way to occupy her time. Even if neither of her elder sisters had instructed her to.

Soft and quiet sniffles were long since subdued once the Kakushi offered out a tray of onigiri and an offer to brew some tea. He’d come in so quick and quietly, surely a trait most of them shared in their role. There was a small twinge of guilt as she accepted his offer, but surely he wouldn’t offer if he didn’t mean it, right? Fingers hold onto the rice ball as she turns to smile at him.

‘  Thank you- ! ‘  A pause. ‘  Do you have a name I could call you? I don’t want to just call you kakushi-kun!  ‘

Flashbacks of only a week and a half ago occurred, partly in the form of the worst auditory hallucinations he'd ever had, or would have, in his life. There was something so unsettlingly vulgar in the way the Sound Hashira (COUGH @never-surrender) had said ❛ sigma ❜ and it was just his luck that it repeated over and over and over and over and over… and over. Zenitsu nearly burst a blood vessel. And yet, despite knowing he was being set up to be the butt of a joke, he merely sighed, and calmly as he possibly could, spoke up with the slightest tremble in his voice. ❝ What's that, Haru-san? Hm? What's ❛ hava ❜ ? ❞

when do they fake a smile? how often? (for hyouka!)

hmm hyouka is genuinely upbeat most of the time, but when she isn't feeling that way, she's still going to fake a smile. even if the situation is bleak, she'll smile for your character; even if she's on the verge of tears, she'll smile; even if her arm is broken and your muse is freaking out, she'll smile. if hyouka thinks it'll help the other person to feel better, she'll keep smiling and attempt to make light of the situation.

hyouka isn't a great actress, so you're likely to know she's full of it right away, but that doesn't stop her from trying anyway :' ) she's come to realize over time that a smile does wonders for a situation, easing tension and worries despite the circumstances.

i will say she doesn't have to do this super often? it's mainly when she's hurt that hyouka has to grin and bear it so those around her won't worry. she's rarely faking a smile when she's truly emotionally vulnerable bc she just!! doesn't get that way around others if she can help it bc she absolutely hates it!! she hates feeling weak, and she hates how others don't know how to react or begin to feel bad for her. she's trying so hard to be strong, so the last thing she wants is for someone to see her as anything but. and when she's in that kinda state, any smile from her will just look painful :(
