Classics - Aretha Franklin - Say a Little Prayer

Say a Little Prayer - Classic song and I love it.  I really enjoy how she successfully combines Jazz and Soul together  with her powerful vocals and jazz piano and drum beat.  I feel that it really works and is a timeless track.  I interpret the meaning of this song to be about a relationship that she can't stop thinking about, no matter what she is doing. Another aspect of this track that I like is the backing singers and the harmonies, they are classically Soul and I think that they add depth to the music that makes it interesting to listen to.

We Are The In Crowd - Manners - Quick Review

I really enjoy the duet aspect of this song as it shows two sides of a story that can sometimes be lost in other songs and they use this to their advantage.  

The vocal harmonies work well in the song by adding a little more depth and texture to the track. Lyrics are strong with interesting imagery, again playing on the duet structure. 

Dynamics of this track allow the song to move forward, with a powerful pop punk chorus that we know and love from WATIC. The bass is steady and drives the song, working tightly with the kit to emphasise the punk elements.

All in all, I think this song is a great belter, with catchy hooks and powerful chorus that works amazingly well at a live gig.

Classic - The Runaways - Cherry Bomb

This is steady classic rock. Lita Ford adding her unique licks to the mix making adding interest.  The lyrics by Joan Jett and Kim Fowley are simple but effective, pushing that rebel persona adopted by the all girl rock band. Though the lyrics are simple, the vocal delivery gives a character to the “Cherry Bomb”. 

Song structure follows a classic rock track, the solo break gives Lita a chance to truly show that she can keep up with the boys and allows the song a chance to breathe and give the audience a chance to rock out.

Love this song and is definitely a classic in my eyes

Letlive. - That Fear Fever - Quick Review

The musics unrest and irregular time signature, match the rousing and political lyrics.  One stand out lyric being 'a system anarchy might understand', which holds some interesting connotations. 

Dynamics in this song are very diverse, with several rises, and falls, that again follow the theme of unrest. In addition, the use of vocal layer and chanting adds to the atmosphere of the song, which would inspire anyone to stand up and fight for what they believe in.

The instruments are tight, and texturally compliment the context of the song, giving the song the driving force that it needs to start a well earned mosh pit.

Really enjoy this song, musically and conceptually.

Motion City Soundtrack - Delirium - Quick Review

Classic pop punk, simple as.  The guitar riffs are interesting and match the vocals well. 

The chorus is full of melodic and lyrical hooks, and exactly what you want from a pop punk anthem! A powerful punchy chorus with a full texture that could fill any venue.

Verses are full of amusing lyrics, despite the slightly darker inference upon closer inspection, and rhythmically run along nicely, with contrast between sections that keeps the song interesting. 

Great pop punk track for bopping along to, with further meaning that gives the song a more emotional depth, making the song go a little further.

Ume - Rubicon - Quick Review

The intricate distorted guitar lines and dreamy vocals create an interesting texture to the track. This contrast keeps the song interesting and sets the sound of the band right from the off.

Dynamically the song stays on the same level, but interest in the lyrics and the vocal effects compensate. 

The rhythm is steady a dependable, but the guitar is the driving force pushing the song forward which just makes you want to move about!

The Marmozets - Is It Horrible? - Quick Review

Math-Core band, displaying amazing technical ability and creative use of music theory. Strong riffs, accompanied by interesting harmonies shared between the two guitars.  Lead singer, Becca Macintyre, has such a powerful and dynamic voice, switching from clean to harsh vocals on a dime. 

The verse and chorus are well defined throughout the song both texturally and dynamically. The song builds nicely, with verses taunting a drop into a potential mosh pit.

Rhythmically the drum section very tight and uniquely played, with surprising beats that keep you on your toes, with cross rhythms against the guitar that work perfectly together.
