took cold medication earlier with the thought that if it made me sleepy I just simply wouldn't go to bed. easy peasy and anyone who does not fight the cold medicine is weak, right? surely I will have time to write fanfic tonight because I will battle against the sleepiness.

wrong. I'm sleepy now and I'm going to bed. I should have known this would happen.
