“do they know it’s legal” “someone tell them it’s legal” i know it’s a joke, but my brother in christ it was absolutely not legal when they were growing up. the homophobia of the early 90s/2000s cannot be overstated, lit watch any episode of network tv at the time. it’s violent and pervasive and based in stereotypes of the effeminate gay man or the gay predator take your pick. look at what happened to matt bomer!! and that was 2006!!! tyler and josh would’ve been in high school !!!
the tragedy of joshler is that tyler literally got married two months before obergefell vs hodges. i’m not a millennial but i remember how casually ppl would use certain words and slurs so i cant even imagine how much worse it was as homeschooled millennials in conservative christian households in bumfuck ohio (notoriously known for its progressive values) with family members who wanted you to evangelize instead of get therapy
gossip sites and tabloids were blood thirsty beasts and chewed ppl up and spit them back out. maybe it’s just bc i’m old but what exactly is the joke? that these two guys have a really close relationship that goes beyond the realm of just best friend stuff? that they don’t realize how gay they’re being with each other??? omg they should just date and come out instead, isn’t it so funny they don’t even realize how gay they’re being!! and like what if they are aware ? they’re aware and they can’t be tgt, that’s so deeply sad
the reality is if there was smth going on btwn them they never would’ve been able to express it openly and have their careers too which knowing how much music means to them is so fucking tragic
