Slightly Left Of Centre
“Imagine Maroon 5 meets Daft Punk for one night in Melbourne, Australia and painted the town!”
That’s how Michael “Mick” Pace, one-third of the hit Australian band Slightly Left of Centre, describes the band, which was formed in 2010 by Pace, along with Vince Iannotti and Adam “Random Ads” Spicer. The band came up with the name Slightly Left of Centre to separate themselves from other pop/funk music artists on the scene.
It’s not just the band’s name that sets them apart from other musicians. Their sound is influenced by Maroon 5 (“ironically our lead singer Adam Spicer aka 'Random Ads' shares the same first name let alone Tonal similarities,”) as well as artists spanning across other genres, including metal and pop music. It’s not surprising then, that Adam Levine – along with Snoop Lion, Katy Perry and Jessie J – are among the artists that they would love to collaborate with.
Slightly Left of Centre burst on the music scene in Australia: their debut album moved over 250,000 units, and they are currently ranked #4 on ReverbNation’s Melbourne Charts. The band chose to market their album in a unique way: as a free download on their website. Pace explained, “I actually made the final decision on that. Honestly, it was tough and did put strain on the band as originally the album set us back excess of $25,000 (it was all self-funded).” But, “giving an album away for FREE inspired music listeners to give us a chance as we are doing this for the love of music, putting financials aside. We plunged into our pockets for the greater good trying to gain exposure and the end result helped heaps with excess of 80,000 units sold, 175,000 free downloads.”
With a passion for creating such lively music, their concerts can only be described as “grouse.” They continue to push the envelope to bring the ultimate experience to their fans- the band recently wrapped shooting a music video, in which they used a $50,000 drone on set. Slightly Left of Centre has plans to take their shows overseas, as well. Their sophomore album Euphoria will be released later this year. The album will feature their hit single “Call Me For the Weekend,” plus “other tracks jam packed of Funk/Pop/Other elements that will entice you for more.”
