Debut: Super Mario World 2: Yoshiâs Island
Can you believe there are people in the world who would argue that a blob with eyes is a lazy, boring design? Me neither! And Iâm proud to announce that if you ever heard somebody say that, you were dreaming. Everyone loves simple cute blobs!
Every game should have a slime of sorts, really. It really is a perfect thing to be an early-game monster. They should let us catch funny little blobs in the beginning of PokĂ©mon games alongside the early bugs mammals and birds. It would stay on my team for sure!Â
Thinking about it now... Salvo the Slime may have been the first slime I ever encountered in a game! And what an introduction to the species it was! This is the perfect boss battle for a slime blob, as any thrown egg will go right through Salvo, sending smaller slimes flying out! With each hit, of course, Salvo gets smaller, until its delightfully cartoony defeat animation, where it blinks those big olâ eyes before exploding.
Before Kamekâs magic though, Salvo was but a humble little Slime Drop. Something I love about these is that they were originally called Lemon Drops! Just look how lemony yellow they were originally:
How cute! I could just eat you up! Literally, if these were real and tasted like lemon I would eat them. Wouldnât you? They would be very slurpable.
Is whitish-yellow not your preferred slime color, though? Then Mario Party 4 is for you! In the Slime Time minigame, Salvo now comes in green, arguably the slimiest color of all, as well as pink and purple. And look at the little Slime Drops in quite a lovely blue!
I think my favorite appearance has to be in Mario Party Advance, though, in which pretty much every Mario character to exist at that point has a speaking role for someone. Donât underestimate him because heâs beefy! I know thatâs what you normally do with beefy people! You think âWell that personâs pretty beefy, I bet I could beat them up no problem!â But not THIS beefy person!
Also appearing in Yoshiâs Island is Slime, which is essentially a miniboss version of Salvo. But BE CAREFUL! They are NOT the same species! Salvo is a giant Slime Drop, while Slime is a normally-sized slime! Please keep that in mind.
Slime is able to disguise itself as a block to catch you off guard, and does NOT release Slime Drops when hit, so you need to angle your eggs cleverly so that they can ricochet and hit it multiple times! Itâs really pretty much a harder version of the Salvo fight, which is pretty wacky for a miniboss, I think.
I also think I would like to touch it. It looks like dough now.Â
