Was getting horny about Kobolds in my t4t group chat and it turned into worldbuilding really quick. Kobolds require proximity to a dragon in order to thrive. Dragon's benefit greatly from having servants, so they often take in groups of kobolds as part of their hoard. This enables the kobolds to grow while being defended by the dragon, and the dragon gains the benefit of servants to do menial labor such as cleaning and warding off adventurers.
Kobolds have three biological sexes. Although the names are in draconic, they can be roughly translated as Warrior, Caretaker, and Broodmother. Warriors perform hard labor, such as hunting, construction, and warding off adventurers. Caretakers take care of cooking, cleaning, and raising children, as well as occasionally serving as one of their Dragon's mates, as dragons are often too isolated and territorial to mate with their own kind. Broodmothers bear kobold eggs. They also take care of record keeping, scientific and arcane pursuits, and other scholarly work.
These are general rules, of course. Kobolds, like any being, are not limited in their ability by their biological sex. A broodmother could be a knight, a warrior could be a chef, etc. The way these roles relate to gender, and kobold gender as a whole, is a topic which requires its own discussion.
