Apologizing for posting overwatch when this is the first time ive seen the real you in years

Im a pretty new player on fr (8 months) and not familiar with the worldbuilding and its developements/rewrites. In what ways was the lore darker/not defanged? Or is it just that it had more space for that kind of stuff?

For what it's worth, I've played since late 2017 (back when signing up was limited to one week each month) and I gotta tell you, that feels like a long time ago to me.

I don't think I ever got the sense that transmuting familiars in Baldwin's Bubbling Brew was all that contentious until a few years ago, but it's not lost on me that this does include Beastclan familiars. Since the Beastclans are sapient creatures, the game mechanics can lead into some dicey territory with them (e.g. selling; the coliseum). I came a year late to the party on that one. I missed the memo on Baldwin apparently not letting any dragons throw living creatures into the soup.

Up until the Harpy Lore update in December 2022, the Beastclans were mostly an antagonistic NPC faction. The long and short of it is that they weren't supposed to come off as mostly enemies for the dragons to eliminate, but the lack of Adventure Mode left them hanging as such so it all unwittingly came off as "parallels with colonialism" (I'm not making this up), and we'll have Adventure Mode eventually, promise. (I'm not holding my breath on that last one.)

I personally think some degree of the playerbase's negative reactions to the Dragons-Beastclans conflict boils down to some idea that the dragons as a whole shouldn't be ever in the wrong, but that's just a hunch.

This isn't entirely lore-related, but the "No gore" rule for skins and accents was kind of touchy. I think this has since died down, but there used to be confusion over exactly how much scarring or blood splatter was too much. Plague skin-makers ended up getting crap for the flight's penchant for body horror. (Apparently pustules are fine, but not anything that could be construed as blood or exposed bone.) And, of course, this entire time we've had the Bloody Bandage apparel.

This has been a little all over the place, but the main point is that there's a pattern of the devs trying to correct anything perceived as iffy over the last several years.
