“Birds' Twitter and Fragrance of Flowers” by Wan Liya 万里雅
This work is a set of 22 slip-cast porcelain objects decorated with delicate painted designs in enamel colours over a clear glaze. These objects resemble contemporary utilitarian and industrial items including: soft drink cans, plastic soft drink bottles, handwash containers, tubes of toothpaste, kitchen cleaner sprays, glass coke bottles, plastic toilet cleaner containers, paper coffee cups and milk cartons. The delicate decorative paintings depict songbirds, bamboo, plum branches covered in blossoms, and other flowers, evoking a luxuriant garden landscape and referencing 18th century famille rose Chinese porcelain. The reverse sides of the works are inscribed with poems by Tang Dynasty poet, Lu Benzhong. Object number: Or2015.05
