You don't understand how hella personal this feels to me. I'm a Slovak and one of my friends is in Kharkiv, a city incredibly close to the Russian borders, and he can't leave the country. He's been there all this time and all this time I've been dead worried that one day he'll stop sending me all these random animal posts and updates about the plants he's trying to grow in his flat. Hearing that our fighter jets are protecting his city? Made me genuinely cry. Of course, that doesn't mean that the war is over or that nothing can happen to him, but it still lifts certain amount of weight from my incredibly anxious heart. I'm also so proud that it's our fighter jets. To me, this is a huge symbol.
Many people go about their days as if nothing was happening, not giving a damn about Ukraine, but I, with my friendships and our borders being shared with Ukraine, feel with Ukrainians every single minute. I wish them only all the best. What Russia says about the Slavic brotherhood is pure propaganda, but trust me when I say that in my heart, you, Ukrainians, are like brothers and sisters from another mother to me.
Vôbec nerozumiem, prečo sa slovenskí shitposteri politickej satiry/postmoderného satirického absurdizmu už dávno nepresťahovali aj so svojimi fanbases na Tumblr. Veď oni by sem úplne zapadli.
Of course I saw the TV show, I personally am a big fan of the southern Slovak Batman
The "funniest" part of my life rn is that I'm going to Poland in 6 days.
Unless I'm not because Putin decided to "mess around and find out" by triggering NATO.
Then I guess my next trip will be to some relatively safer country. Or afterlife.
Either way, my heart and thoughts go to all Poles rn. This situation is undoubtedly very stressful for all of us, but especially you, and I hope my country will be a responsible ally for yours. 🇸🇰💜🇵🇱
As a Slovak from the region with a Hungarian majority and also a pacifist, I don't understand people on the internet that are still trying to kindle the bonfire of hate between Slovaks and Hungarians like we don't live side by side in peace and Hungarians in Slovakia have everything they need to make their culture bloom. Hungarian kindergartens and schools, names of streets and villages/cities in both Slovak and Hungarian, same with announcements, local news, there are Slovak Hungarians political parties, both regional and national. There's no need to try to make us hate each other now that we finally get along and can enjoy the wonders of democracy together without the fear of losing them just because of who we identify as.
It's just so hurtful because I have never ever found myself in a conflict with any Slovak Hungarian irl, we just exist as neighbors, fellow villagers, classmates, citizens of Slovakia that each hold dear a different culture, both of them beautiful and enriching the other one.
