For those of us who participated in Jonah Winter's Montreal '11 picture book workshop, we've already been treated to this great tale in advance. For those not lucky enough, consider this article a solid introduction. The tale is Jonah's Born and Bred in the Great Depression, a touching tribute to his father. It was recently featured in The New York Times Book Review (linked above) along with two other biographical picture books. Pick it up when you get the chance!
Our Montreal '11 program was fortunate to have had Lee Henderson as one of several esteemed faculty members. He graced us with his cool demeanour, cooler intelligence, and coolest hairdo. Congratulations to Lee for being recommended, by Governor General's Award winner Greg Hollingshead, as a writer to watch.

Montreal '11 participant Andrew Forbes is a writer of superb talent. He really needs a wider audience. On his website This Is Our Music, Andrew has outdone himself with this latest piece. An extremely well-written essay of great importance; read it!
Just stumbled upon Jon Paul Fiorentino's blog. There, he recently paid tribute to Robert Kroetsch, with words originally published in Quill and Quire's September 2011 issue. Beautifully moving. I attended the reading mentioned in JPF's piece, and while he read I remember thinking, "This man is so brave." I wasn't wrong.
