i made a slugcat-sona! their name is the tisserand (weaver). they come from a clan of slugcats called "carpet slugcats". they can remove and tame wormgrass, using them as carpets/cloaks of sorts for camouflage and defense.
the tisserand/carpet slugcats are based on pom pom crabs, decorator crabs, clownfish, and wobbegong sharks. their "whiskers" are based on wobbegong shark frills, but i didn't want to put too much intricate details on them, so i'll settle with two little whiskers instead. more info below
how does their wormcloak work? first off, i headcanon that slugcats secrete slug mucus. carpet slugcats have evolved a special kind of mucus that tastes moderately unpleasant to wormgrass, so they tend not to eat these slugcats. the mucus is also very sticky, allowing dirt and wormgrass to stick onto their backs. carpet scugs like to lay flat and hide, letting the wormgrass do its thing. the wormgrass also gets a free ride on a lizard magnet - easy food!
what's that on their spear? exactly what it looks like - a bubble fruit with leeches crawling in it. the tisserand's own technique, a spear with leeches that feed on their targets. the bubble berry is there to keep the leeches hydrated. i don't really know if it's logical but yknow, this is rain world, there are firecracker plants.
tisserand has pretty much the same diet and appetite as monk. easy to feed on their own.
but their tools have needs too. when using a carpet or spear, tisserand needs to feed and care for it, otherwise it gets hungry. tisserand's mucus is foul tasting for wormgrass, but it's not poisonous, if it's hungry enough it will attack. and the leeches aren't put off by the mucus at all, it's just a bit harder to bite a slugcat when they're stuck to a bubblefruit as your only water source. on the topic of the bubblefruit, tisserand has to dip the berry in water every now and then to prevent it from drying out, too. also, wearing a carpet puts a lot of weight on them, causing them to slide down poles.
i don't think they'd be a fun character to play personally, a lot of what they do is evade. but they're cool and cute to me :]
