University of Rochester

Prior to launching his career as a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in the New York and New Jersey area, Dr. Oleh Slupchynskyj completed a fellowship in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Rochester. Located in Rochester in the western region of New York, the University of Rochester serves as a private research university that enrolls just under 10,000 students. Established in 1850 as a Baptist institution by former faculty members of nearby Colgate University, University of Rochester received an educational charter from the State of New York to start their own school. During the first classes in November 1850, the University of Rochester enrolled about 60 students, nearly half of whom were transfers from Colgate University. Due to the efforts of noted activist Susan B. Anthony, the University of Rochester began to enroll women as fully recognized students in 1900. The school grew rapidly over the next 50 years, receiving $50 million in donations from three major benefactors and awarding its first Ph.D. in 1925. Today, the University of Rochester possesses a reputation as a top educational institution, securing a ranking of 35th among national universities in 2010, according to U.S. News and World Report.
