Apotheosis of a Toxic Waste Site: Fairfax City, 2010 and 2018.
A plot next to the heavily trafficated intersection of Va 236 (Main Street) and Old Lee Highway/East Street was once graced by an abandoned gas station and, on its opposite side, by a derelict dry cleaners. For many years the site, badly polluted by the two uses, was ignored even as a great deal of new construction went up nearby. Finally after a prolonged cleanup the small plot is now the setting for about 25 townhouses each selling for $750k and up.
