A quiet afternoon hike at the edge of the El Dorado National Forest in the sierra nevadas means being around lots of tall trees. And the Fleming Meadows trail right outside of Sly Park is the perfect moderate hike to enjoy the trees. And while there is never a final destination to stop and look at the view, I still fell in love with this trail. The best part would also come when you stopped and looked up and saw the tops of the trees overhead.

Bits of snow have fallen in gold country. The elevation is just right for snow and rain to fall in make el dorado county all ready for winter. Not much is staying on the trees yet. But winter is here and more snow is to come. The mountain tops are turning white. They look magical when the sun beats down. The mornings have gotten cold and the days are starting to get longer. Winter in el dorado county, is the most beautiful time of year.

This is the narrow end of the lake; it spreads out a lot beyond those hills, and it’s super clear. It’s a drinking water lake, meaning that you can fish there, but if they catch your dog in it, or your diapered kid, they throw you out of the park.
It’s a very California situation: a good thing to do, heavy-handedly enforced.
