How might one tell apart chestnut duns from bay duns? (If there is a visible difference)

In duns, only the body is diluted so the points are the same colour as they would be on a non-dun horse. Bay duns have black points and primitive markings while red duns have non-diluted chestnut-coloured points and markings.

Inspired by @allergekko's drawings of Javier as a bobcat. John and Javier are out hunting a bounty and get separated. Javier ends up as a bobcat. John spends a lot of time looking for Javier and trying to warm up to his strange new furry friend. It's gonna be a fun romp lol

Do seal brown horses tend to have a bit of brown right before their nose? I’m watching a movie and can’t see the rest of the horse, but I’ve never seen a black horse with that and so I suspect it’s seal brown.

Yes, it's one of their defining features. This horse was probably a seal brown

My Chavier one is a multi-chapter, what-if story if Javier had, while getting separated running from the Pinkertons, encountered Charles bringing Arthur's body back down from the mountain. Both of them dealing with grief, denial, and anger with nothing but each other. Basically strangers, but having nothing of the life they used to live left besides them. It's a lot of sad shit but hopefully will have some comfort at the end. :')

The Modern AU, honestly idk if I'm gonna get to this one. Javier's playing guitar at a local bar/cafe, John trying to get his life together after a bad falling out with his former mentor. John getting to know Javier but finding out that he's working with Dutch to like, produce is music or something? Trying to get Javier out before something bad happens to him. Unless I find something interesting to say in this one I might abandon it lol

The fucky gender shit one is super inspired by @stewed-blog's drawings of John in makeup lmaoo. basically John having some Odd Feelings about wearing makeup and feminine clothing and Javier discovering it and deciding to indulge in it. neither of them have the vocabulary to know what's going on with it but it turns Javier on and it turns John on too so why complain hahaha

I don't see why not. The breed standard says all colours are allowed, and both black and roan are found in the breed, though roan is uncommon.

5. What was the first fanfic you ever read?

I couldn't tell you specifically what, but I know it was probably for Inuyasha lol

My first fandom space was Quizilla, which was an offshoot of MySpace. There was a weird little subculture there that would post fic in the quizzes. So they'd post a paragraph or so in the question slot and then choose your commentary from the answer section. Like "omg noo!!" or "wow what'll happen next??" The results would either be author's notes or the final paragraph. It was weird! And wonderful. And soooo early internet.

Either way the website was taken down in 2014. RIP Quizilla lol

10. What is an act of kindness that you have never forgotten?

I get in my head a lot. I have an anxiety disorder and it makes me question my own self worth a lot, so honestly whenever someone gives me kind words of affirmation it's so so important to me. When I was in college I kept a box of letters and such I got from friends and I'd read them whenever I was down. Rereading kind words really helps ground me, especially when my anxiety gets so bad that I start doubting reality 🤪

26. What's an achievement big or small that you're really proud of?

My main hobby is costuming! I don't really talk about it here, but I've been doing it since 2008. I have made some pretty wild things, and I am always so proud of how things turn out. I love getting to point at a thing and say "I made that".

But for a less tangential example, I'm proud of how I can work through conflict. It's something that I used to be very very bad at, and now people come to me for guidance on it. I'm good at understanding people, and how they act, and it helps determine how to navigate a tough emotional situation.

Why does overo/overo (O/O?) result in lethal white syndrome?

Also, how is embryonic lethal white (W/W) different? A quick search just brings me to overo lethal white, but embryonic lethal is in a coat genetics simulator I found.

(I can't really go into details because I don't know enough about embryonic development. People more knowledgeable in the suject are welcome to add to this or correct me.)

Lethal white syndrome: There's a gene that codes for a protein named EDNRB. This protein, when functional, enables the development of melanocytes (pigment cells) and also of neurons in an embryo's intestines. There's a mutation of the EDNRB gene that impairs the function of the protein. In its heterozygous form (O/o), it only causes less pigmentation (frame overo white spotting) and is benign. In its homozygous form (O/O), however, it causes a more drastic loss of function of EDNRB, resulting in no pigmentation at all (foal is completely white), and dysfunction of the intestines (can't move food along). O/O foals are born with an intestinal anomaly and die of colics a few hours or days after birth. To spare them the painful death, they are usually euthanised.

Embryonic lethal white: Many (but not all) "dominant white" mutations of the KIT gene are thought to be homozygous lethal, because no horses homozygous for these have ever been found. It appears the embryos are resorbed or aborted early in the gestation. It's probably because, similarly to the overo mutation, the homozygous form causes too much loss of function in KIT for it to be compatible with life at all.

Oh lord gonna have to dig around and see... I think one of my favorite lines is from Homecoming, which is my first red dead fic! "He knows he’s lying to himself. He’d just hoped that if he believed in the anonymous, detached killer that is Javier Escuella, that he would come into existence. Not this collection of dust and scars and loneliness that keeps breathing despite the world’s efforts to let it die." It kind of encapsulates a lot of what I like about 1911 stories. They've all been through so much, but underneath it all, they're still human. Still feeling, despite everything.

Another is from Justifying Means "It would be so easy. He’s done it hundreds of times. He’s almost had it done to him, and he would know exactly how it would feel. The blade would peel that narrow neckerchief, slice though his thin skin. The blood would look so pretty against his pale neck. He’d probably get to hear John sigh again, and if he closed his eyes, it could sound like ecstasy." Javier has a hard choice at this moment. Letting himself fall deeper into despair, or taking a chance. I wanted to capture the mournfulness of the moment, just how lost he feels. It makes my heart ache thinking about him at this point.

I'm very proud of the way my writing has improved! I'm always proud of how I write intimate moments. But I've found that looking back on older works I'm not embarrassed or find them cringe-worthy, which is nice.

I just outlined the fic I'm writing for the jovier exchange and I'm so excited to start on it. It'll be so fun and I can't wait to share it!!
