Who are you without them?
Seems vague but just follow me here. Think of the image of yourself and how you act, mostly with other people. You probably like the same things or try to keep up with the conversation to be social because that's what we do. But what about when they're not there? Do you still have a shared interest in all those things? Do you really feel validated in your opinion without theirs?
How often do you put yourself in a mold to be liked by others? We construct social circles and hierarchies, do all we can in our power to create boxes that we all can fit into. It should be obvious you won't fit into every box, but why try so hard to fit into any? Where on the path of humanity did we feel the need to create a cookie cutter mentality and try to all be like someone else?
Think back to when you were a kid, and your parents told you not to do that because you won't make friends. Fuck it, do the thing! Remember when you weren't sure about how you felt on your identity, so you made a friend to help guide you but they ended up instructing you how to feel and what to call yourself? Forget about them! The idea of being yourself means that YOU make the rules in your life.
YOU get to call the shots and yourself by whatever you want. How often do you feel like a side character? A NPC in someone else's SIMS? Hell no! You darling are the main character! You get to write your story, rebel, love, laugh, cry. Only you get to experience this all through your own consciousness, don't waste it trying to be like others because you feel you should, you have to, or it's what's best.
Today is your day, because you get to decided what to do with it. How to look, act, dress etc.. Today you too are the star in the basement, a shining ball of creation that has kept itself hidden for too long.
