Woodworking in a one stall garage in a gated community of townhouses has its challenges!
Assuming it is not against the CC&R's, doing woodworking in a townhouse community is interesting. You do not want to work with the garage door open very often because you do not want anyone to see all your power tools and get all upset. Dust collection systems, table saws, thickness planers, jointers, routers and compound mitre saws are ALL VERY NOISEY! Probably the worst culprit of all is the cheap shop vac - loudest machine in the whole shop.
So not only is are you restricted to a one-car garage which can get pretty cramped, you need to keep the garage door closed for noise abatement and secrecy. Often you are tempted to spread your work out in the car port but you don't want to leave it there for days at a time, so some time must be allocated each day to moving everything inside the garage.
Best plan is to keep you eyes out for your immediate neighbors, offer them a beer and invite them in to see what you have done and what you are working on - get them involved. After they have been invited to be your guests and shared a brew with you, surely they will not be the ones to complain.
Keeping your relationship good with your immediate neighbors if critical - you want them on your side when the Board of Directors of the homeowners association decides to debate whether or not woodworking in a townhome community is appropriate.
