Fun fact: When the Apollo 13 malfunctioned, It was while listening to the theme from 2001:ASO. Thus they reported it to mission control with the line "Houston we have a problem.", A line used by HAL in the movie to report a malfunction.
When the notification came up saying “Fun fact: When the Apollo 13 malfunctioned...” I was very prepared to say “THIS IS NOT A FUN FACT” but that’s genuinely hilarious enough for me to say it is a fun fact, because:
Those dorks were listening to the 2001: ASO theme song
Their immediate response to danger was a fucking movie reference
They must have had some confidence that someone would get the reference, otherwise I can only imagine some poor fucker on the other end saying, “sorry, what?”
The thought that all of mission control knew the reference and .5 of a second before panic set in, they flipped their shit at the use of a meme
