Because we live in an apartment and don't have extra room, we have a half-sized tabletop ironing board. Today I'm prepping five and a half yards of beautifully obnoxious fabric to make some beautifully obnoxious summer trousers. I set the iron to the side. It tipped forward onto the carpet. I caught it immediately -- probably less than a second -- but it still managed to melt enough of the synthetic fibers to put my whole project on hold while waiting for the iron to cool enough so I can clean it.
