New Google Update Local Businesses Can’t Ignore (Especially in 2026–2027)
Google has quietly rolled out a powerful AI feature on Google Business Profiles called “Know Before You Go.”
I briefly mentioned this in a past post, but this update deserves serious attention.
Before a customer even calls or visits your business, Google’s AI now answers questions like:
Do they offer carpentry services?
Do they provide emergency or same-day service?
Are they affordable or expensive?
Here’s the real issue
If Google’s AI answers these questions incorrectly, the customer may never contact you at all.
And no Google doesn’t magically understand your business.
Where Google’s AI pulls this information from:
1️⃣ Your Google Business Profile (GBP)
2️⃣ Your customer reviews
3️⃣ Your website content
If any of these are weak, outdated, or incomplete, Google fills the gaps by guessing.
And guesses cost you calls, visits, and revenue.
How to control what Google’s AI says about your business
1) Fully build out your GBP services
Every service you offer must be listed with clear, descriptive explanations.
Bad example:
“Carpentry Service”
Good example:
“Professional carpentry services offering same-day support for furniture repair, doors, cabinets, shelves, and custom woodwork.”
Google’s AI reads these service descriptions word by word.
2) Reviews must mention real services
Generic reviews like “Great service” don’t help AI systems understand your business.
Instead, reviews should mention:
“They repaired our wooden door the same day.”
“Custom cabinet work was clean, affordable, and professional.”
Pro tip:
When you reply to reviews, be specific as well.
Your replies are also used as AI signals.
3) Your website matters more than ever
Google’s AI actively reads your website to answer customer questions.
Separate pages for each service
Clear explanations of what you do
FAQs that answer real customer doubts
Locations and service areas
Brands, tools, or materials you work with
Thin pages = wrong AI answers = lost customers.
Businesses that will win in this new AI-driven local search:
✔ Clear GBP service descriptions
✔ Reviews that talk about real work
✔ Detailed service pages
✔ Location pages with genuine local info
Google is now explaining your business before customers reach you.
If you don’t control the narrative, AI will and not always correctly.
