Here’s another small mixed media landscape I painted yesterday. It measures about 5 x 8 inches. I started by taking the stump of a white tea candle and drawing the four tree trunks. Since I was drawing with white wax on white paper, I couldn’t see what I had drawn until I added the green foreground and blue sky, which revealed the shape of the trunks because the wax resisted the ink washes. It was cool watching the tree trunks appear as the colored inks flowed around them. After that I waited until the background colors dried and then I added details to the trees by drawing branches and bark textures with some black India ink mixed with a drop or two of brown ink. I actually used a tiny twig from my yard to draw the tree’s dark branches.
