adult smalls grew up loved and protected, so all things considered he turned out better than other versions of him could claim

he's just a well adjusted dork taking online classes and raising his various fish tanks and trying not to think about the fact that one day grey will die (but he still sees that his big brother isn't as quick as he uses to be, sees the age in the way his bones creak and his stiff movements...smalls isn't ready to say goodbye)

smalls and grey's relationship started off rather poorly, all things considered.

grey had resigned himself to his 'victory' over the human, as hollow as that now was after so long of nothing. and smalls had been on the run for quite some time, just barely staying ahead of his now older twin who was relentlessly hunting him down.

it was a complete accident, stumbling into grey's universe, and right off the bat they hated each other: smalls trusted no one and was pretty severely hurt, starving, and over all terrified. grey, on the other hand, was suspicious of the child and at first assumed smalls wasn't actually real until the little guy had rudely told him to stop being a creep.

their relationship gets worse when smalls' brother crashes the party at some point, with grey grabbing smalls while the kid opened a portal out to who knows where. now grey had lost everything that had been important to him, and smalls ended up suffering an awful panic attack since grey had grabbed him so suddenly. so. they hated each other. but were sort of stuck with each other because grey couldn't go back, and smalls was still too weak to go off on his own. so. they had to make it work

smalls has so much beef against a small number of other outcodes, and that beef extends to any and all versions of that particular person no matter what

like, the guy on the top of his beef list is killer. why? smalls thinks he smells. but also like...he doesn't like killer very much, like he knows too much and is dying to say so. killer freaks him out.

some other guys he doesn't or wouldn't like also includes cross (thinks he smells), fresh (creepy, and he smells), and error (almost as scary as killer, ultra smelly)

thinking about a teen/adult smalls and like

he's essentially immortal, and now he's older and has the ability to defend himself against his brother's relentless hunting of him. smalls was able to carve himself out a safe place like the usual nightmare castle or manor, so things are stable for him

but grey...is only mortal. he will die one day, and smalls isn't ready for that. he's been trying not to think about it, even when it becomes clearer and clearer that grey's days are numbered. smalls stays by his side once grey falls down...he wants him to wake up, wake up, wake up...

smalls' grief darkens everything around him. he's alone again. grey is gone

smalls is a very opinionated little boy and will make sure everyone knows it

mostly because he had never really been allowed to voice his thoughts without severe backlash or being brushed off, so grey is happy to indulge him in his Rant of The Day because this kid is fucking hilarious and deserves to be heard

so I have like...four nightmares that I really like, and I wanted to talk about their dreams for a moment because I just. do not like him as much as I do nightmare lmao

but anyways, I was thinking about what they'd look like, tho I can't guarantee I'd draw them. so-

papillon's dream: a saintly being, far too perfect and bright, with imagery borrowed from biblical angels. he dresses in long robes, as a saintly/pope sorta(???) type of collar, and sees things only how he believes they should be. he aims to 'fix' the multiverse all so his brother can live happily and safely. lives only for his brother's happiness, even if it isn't what he wants

smalls' dream: a hunter, cynical and exhausted. doesn't wear very bright colors and chooses practical over comfort. no capes, no ribbons, none of that nonsense; the harder it is to grab him, the better. he grossly misunderstands his duty, and will stop at nothing to eradicate the 'corruption' (smalls) that exists in the multiverse

mare's dream: perpetually tired and frazzled, in the way a rushed parent would be. he usually looks disheveled and dresses in a way that's reminiscent of his childhood attire. has spent the last 500 years trying to 'fix' mare, and heavily projects what he thinks his brother is like. he had broken mare's spirit in the process...

abaddon's dream: a coward at heart. always a coward. twisted from his original form, he resembles nothing less than what would be considered a 'biblically accurate' angel, and so isn't really able to wear anything. he's constantly running away from his brother, who wants nothing more than to devour that small light to warm the emptiness darkness...

smalls has INSANE beef with any and all Killers. There's just something about that type of Sans he doesn't like

maybe it's cuz he thinks they smell. maybe he thinks they're too weird. maybe also he doesn't like how one made fun of him/teased him so it became a blanket rule where he dislikes each and every Killer afterwards. smalls is a very silly 8 year old
