happy march! there is a tall order of updates coming to you all the way from very snowy and very cold edinburgh!
1.) my first February reading week has come and gone.... it never felt like a real time to relax in my case due to three essays being due the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of the following week. i spent my days (and sometimes nights) in cafes, the student union, and the library typing away about John Stuart Mill, environmental racism, and migration statistics. all interesting, but i found myself stressed, exhausted, and majorly in need of a break from edinburgh and from my laptop. so, once my essays were all sent in, i packed my weekend bag and headed to a small airbnb right on the seaside about 30 minutes north of Edinburgh. I had the most serene weekend away from uni, going on long walks, collecting rocks on the beach, and getting lots of sleep. the lady who owned the airbnb i stayed at was nothing short of fantastic, and gave me a large supply of delicious vegan Scottish tablet! such a treat. this leads me to my next point...
2.) i am going into week three of being vegan! i have never felt healthier or happier, i can’t understand why i didn’t convert to veganism ages ago. i am finding my fridge teeming with fruits and vegetables, very much unlike what i expected my uni diet to be like. i am so so lucky to be able to financially be able to live a vegan lifestyle and i have grown to be more appreciative of what i am blessed to have!
3.) ‘go to Scotland’ they said, ‘there isn’t much snow in the winters there’ they said.... for those who are from back home, you may think that a few inches of blizzard is nothing to freak out about, but my god did edinburgh freak out during last week’s Beast from the East. uni was cancelled for 2.5 days! on top of the union strikes that have cancelled all of my lectures for the past two weeks, the amount of class that i am missing is steadily growing to a terrifying level.
4.) just one more little update: a new show that i love! although it was released in 2017, Mindhunter has totally captured my attention. my love for true crime and Johnathon Groff are combined in this totally addicting and thrilling show, I highly recommend if you want to both learn about the beginnings of FBI criminal psychology and enjoy some fantastic acting (fingers crossed Charles Manson is introduced in season 2...)
4.a.) since i was in a true crime mood, I have been listening to Small Town Murder, a podcast on Spotify (and iTunes too) by two comedians who cover, you guessed it, small town true crime. it’s both funny and factual, and i look forward to each episode on the bus to work!
That’s all for now. Cheers!
