How much did you pay for your braces?sorry if this has been answered before! Did you ever think about getting invisalign?
Sorry for the late response! Dead internet and all I could do was watch your question fester.
I've only briefly gone over the price of my brace but I paid (by 'I', I mean family because I'm a broke little mofo) RM9000 for one ceramic jaw and damon metal bottom smart clip braces (about USD2951 based on the current exchange rate). The first two sessions, we paid up to RM3000 (USD 984) and now we're paying it in installments of RM300 (USD 98) until the amount is complete! I don't know how much it is in comparison to abroad, but I scouted and researched orthodontists for a while and the average price for what I wanted came to about that price.
I have considered getting invisalign but it was way too expensive for me. I think it was up to RM10,000 per jaw (USD 3279)? Also, I realised that it would start to get a bit tedious that you have to take it out and clean it after each meal. My chances of losing it would very very high. Also, a few people have stated that the pain in the first few stages of invisalign is excruciating but hey, my braces have been pretty painful so I don't really know the difference.
I'm not talking down invisalign because I would have loved it if I had it but it was a bit out of my price range (and I wouldn't have this blog too!). All I can say is that the ceramic braces with smart-Clips are really good and almost just as transparent/not-noticeable. So if you're looking to spend a bit more than the average for a shorter time span, these braces are a pretty good bet!
Hope that helped!
Day 60: Hot Days
I'm back in KL with rather large eyebrows and it's hot like a mofo. My knees are actually sweating and I didn't even know that that was possible. Maybe my eyebrows bloom better in the heat. Need to book appointment for threading.
I didn't have time to call my orthodontist since we reached back quite late and I was too busy melting in a puddle so I've just been cleaning my teeth rigorously to get rid of any plaque build-up. In any case, I loved going down South but I also do love having a working sink. Brushing teeth in the shower can get rather inconvenient.
Yay for working sinks.
I know that the Clippy-C's/SmartClip braces are self-ligating but I'm starting to feel that my teeth are going to take ages until they straighten up. Especially the one on the front tooth on the right side. I have this ultimate fear that it will take longer than the 8-month mark.
So I've been browsing the web and so far I've read a clinical paper of the advantages and disadvantages of self-ligating braces (I unfortunately processed it all as scientific words scientific words scientific words) and other dentist blogs. Unfortunately not many track the progress of how self-ligating braces go despite how popular they are with older clients. Dentists on the other hand also get a wee bit b*tchy since some are pro-Invisalign whereas others are pro-self-ligation (SL). Many have stated that it is faster to go on SL whereas others say its a load of bollocks. Some have said that it's dependent on the skills of the orthodontist. I guess I'll just have to hope for the best and that it does keep to the word of my orthodontist that self-ligating braces do cut the braces length of time.
I'm very much exaggerating.
I've also looked up tumblr tags on braces to see if I could be enlightened on the progress of others with self-ligating braces but so far:
a) Most people who have braces really like One Direction or JLS: I'm really sorry, I'm very old now but are one of the members wearing braces or used to wear braces? They're like the new NSync/Backstreet Boys right? Good god I'm old.
b) Blowjobs: Seriously. I can't believe that children these day an age would think that first after getting their braces off. I'm 23 and I'm all up in the alley of gummy bears once I've got these babies off. Listen to the JLS/One Direction kids.
In conclusion, I really found nothing but at the end of the day, braces blogs are all the experiences of their own and others. Everyone has different problems with their teeth and they can only provide personal reports. So one's recommendation can be another's poison and vice versa. All I can say is, read carefully what others have written, check out their sources and judge what you think is best. And don't follow any of the stupid things I do. And stay young guys. I'd love to relive my childhood. I still love toys and cartoons. Why give that all up?!
Whatever man. If you guys are gonna act old, at least act like a effing psycho old people. They're awesome.
