Hi Bagel Lech, a while ago you mentioned not enjoying Steven Universe anymore and I was curious about what about the show turned you off. I also was feeling a tad dissatisfied with the show and I just love hearing your opinions on cartoons.

I really disliked a lot of directions they went with some of the characters, especially that the writers saw fit to make a character like Bismuth into a borderline villain who “goes too far” in fighting back for one of those awful “don’t sink to their level” morals, the way they treat Steven like a flawless angel even after doing some pretty fucked-up stuff, the ease with which they brush off Pearl doing even fucked-uplier stuff, the nasty treatment of the rubies, the utter lack of sympathy towards Jasper (who was no more “evil” than other characters Steven worked hard to redeem), the sudden drop-off in attention to Amethyst or Garnet as characters and plenty more.

But even without all that, the show’s overall production values feel like they plummeted in the most recent season, and this is something people keep arguing is just some sort of “hate bandwagon,” but for me personally, I noticed it before anybody else started posting about it. I just didn’t want to say it because the fandom seemed SO hostile towards criticism, and I think that may have been the case for a lot of other viewers. Everyone felt like they were all alone until they finally saw someone else saying “say, you know...this show used to feel a lot better, didn’t it?”

There’s also a pacing issue the series has -always- suffered from. I feel like it could have told all of its story thus far in just a miniseries, like Over the Garden Wall, and been amazing left at that.
