Since her first trimester had ended, Sam felt that pregnancy had gotten a whole lot easier, but now that she was getting bigger she was experiencing all kinds of aches, pains, and discomfort. And she was doing it alone. Sure, she had her moms, but it wasn’t the same, they weren’t beside her when she woke up from weird dreams, and they definitely couldn’t do anything about how fucking horny she felt some of the time.

It was the morning of her fourth doctor's visit and the first one that she would be going to alone. Dawn was going to come with her but one of her patients had had an emergency so she’d had to bail.

Chapter 1: it's a new year, with it comes new hope and new fears

Sam's room was quiet and dimly lit. She sat at her vanity, head resting on her arms, sobbing softly.

She jumped when there was a knock on her door.

"Sam, dinner will be ready soon."

She sniffed back her tears and quickly called back, "I'll be right there."

She looked up at the mirror sitting on her vanity, at the photos stuck up around it, the photos of all the friends that she'd lost. She gulped, tears threatening again, tonight was the mark of the first year without them all. She looked at herself, she was a mess, eyes swollen and teary, face pale, nose red, lips chewed to pieces, she needed to clean up before she went downstairs.

The next morning they were both quiet as they got ready for work. Sam kissed him before she left for work, as always, hoping that if she acted like everything was okay then it would be.

After work, she went to taekwondo as usual and then headed home.

He wasn’t there.

Sam was getting ready for work and had just finished making herself breakfast when her phone rang, she picked it up and answered it.

“Hello, Samantha Giddings speaking.”

“Hello, this is Detective Tate from Blackwood County Police Station.”

“Oh… hi,” her heartbeat picked up, her jaw tensing. She picked up her breakfast and started to walk over to the table.

Ashton woke up, stretching his arms out and sighing as he realized Sam had left for her running group. He got up out of bed and walked over, fixing himself some breakfast and sitting back in bed to eat, trying to think of how to pass the time while Sam was gone.

He noticed the crib box in the corner of the room and finished eating, pulling the box to the open area and pulling the pieces from the box, looking over the instructions carefully. Sam opened up the door to the apartment and he smiled at her from where he was sitting on the ground.

"Hey, beautiful.”

Ashton picked up his phone as he sat down to eat his lunch and there was a DM on Instagram which he assumed to be from a pornbot from the username.

He happened to glance over it and his jaw dropped.

“Gonna be in LA in a few weeks, would love to meet up with you. Love, mom.”
