I need a new hobby
On the list of modern horrors I expected to have to face while watching the Dave era seasons of this show
This was… not one of them.
Headcanon time:
Rimmer’s a hologram which means of course that even now that he has a more physical form, he’s still made of light.
Which leads me to my personal belief that Rimmer glows- but very very faintly. Not enough to notice amidst the background light of the Dwarf, or the bunkroom.
But I like to think that if they were ever somewhere that was truly dark, absolutely pitch black- with no source of light for your eyes to adjust, just… Dark. If they were trapped somewhere like that, I like to think Rimmer would still be visible. You’d be able to see him dimly, not make out every feature or detail, but he’s made of light, it should be impossible for it to be too dark to make out his form. Maybe it would even be just enough light for eyes to gain some night vision.
Anyways just imagining Lister and Rimmer being stuck somewhere in the dark, finding this out, and then Lister having to use an indignant Rimmer as a torch.
Shocked there aren’t more Doctor Who/Red Dwarf crossover fics tbh. The in universe canon seems to match up really well as far as multiverses go and multiverse travel is possible in both universes, although easier for the Dwarfers.
I mean, just imagine the Doctor meeting these boys, who punch into other universes and mess up the timeline all willy nilly.
(Imagine the Doctor meeting the last human- so very very human, and yet the last of his kind, drifting through space, mostly alone. I think they’d make great drinking buddies.)
I cannot stop thinking about how Drunk!Lister, when looking for something of value to bet in a poker game to get Starbug back, bet Rimmer. Like. He was trying to find Something of value to trade and he thought “I know what you’ll want, if I lose you can have Rimmer”
Never change, you big fool. Never change.
For the ask game:
Sexuality headcannons for the Red Dwarf crew (+whoever else from the universe)
Thanks for the ask!! Very excited to get into this one.
Dave Lister: Pan. I joke about him being a bicon, but I know in my heart he's pan. Lister loves people for them, no matter their gender or sex.
Arnold Rimmer: Asexual, homoromantic. I waffle between demi and ace for Rimmer, but the way he talks about sex feels much more like he's saying what he thinks he's supposed to than anything else. I don't believe he feels sexual attraction, but I certainly don't see him as a sex-repulsed character either. His general treatment of and attraction to women is more likely an attempt at masking, and behaving the way that he feels he's expected to.
Kryten: Asexual, biromantic. I was leaning towards homoromantic, but I do believe that he loved Camille romantically so bi it is. Kryten's also just canonically sex-repulsed
The Cat: Aromantic bisexual. I imagine he's attracted to women and NB individuals, but not men? He has so much sexual energy and there's never any tension between him and a male character in my eyes idk.
Alternate universe Kochanski and Lister are wlw mlm solidarity.
