SMFA Explores Cuba
In May, two groups of students and faculty traveled to Cuba to participate in the 11th Havana Bienal and study the country's culture and art. David Davison's group toured studios while Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons group participated in her performance (with her husband, Neil Leonard) at the Bienal. On June 18, Continuing Education is offering local artists the opportunity to participate in the Cuban dialogue with "Cuban Reality as Cultural Context," a two-week workshop taught by Campos-Pons and Dayara Bernal Roque, a Cuban artist and assistant curator of the past two Cuban Bienales. Providing a cross-cultural contextual view of Cuban art and politics, students will leave with a curatorial proposal for introducing these topics to a Boston audience.
