SMITensity 2015: Wonderful Events, Leaders are Global
When I heard the word SMITensity, what is in my mind is the collaboration of the students and the mentors/professors in different departments in School of Management and Information Technology. Also, they have a tagline for this event: “Leaders are Global” which means for me is the innovation of management and information technology through global market. I asked myself about the questions related to this major event: What comes in my mind about global market? Is global market related to Computer Applications? Let’s find out about the speakers of this major event.
Day 1 (July 24, 2015, Auditorium 9:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M.)
It is the official start of SMITensity 2015. The introductory remark of this seminar was spoken by Dr. Edward M. Moises, the Dean of School of Management and Information Technology. He discussed the highlights of the events of last SMITensity. Also, he gave the brief description and the events flow related to this event.
The first speaker is Mr. Alvin Juban, President of Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP). He discussed the concept of Games Global Market and its effect in Global Business. He also told the Sales and Profit of the Global Games Market will increase from 2013 until 2017. Also, the Sales and Profit of the Southeast Asian Games Market will increase in the same years but it will be double the Sales by around $ 1.1 billion. As he mentioned a while ago, the new games cannot keep up with the old computers due to the new features and functions.
The second speaker is Ms. Penny S. Bongato, part-time faculty of Human Resource Management Program of De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde and chairman of IBPAP. She discussed the concept of global leaders related to Human Resource Management. According to her, there are many jobs than the numbers of qualified people. The growth of employment in this year (2015) is increasing. If Computer Applications Program has a Business Analytics and Business Intelligence, the Human Resource Management introduces the Human Resource Analytics. She added that in Global Leaders, there are no more jobs you can do by us. We have to start planning, organizing, leading and controlling what is beyond to us.
The Final Speaker for this seminar in Auditorium is Ms. Rexie Andal, from Fasttrack Business Solutions. This is related in Computer Applications Program. She discussed the concepts of the evolution of the industry. She told the tagline: “TIME IS THE NEW OIL” that relates to Benjamin Franklin. When we talk about SAP, it is used by some big companies in the world. SAP is part of the Enterprise Resource Planning System that means it is the backbone of the business. It is also gaining industry insights by the students. Another concept is the Business Analytics part. When we talk about Business Analytics, Data is the new oil that means it is compose of Data Archiving. It is used by Real Time Analytics (continuous flow of Big Data) and Dashboard System (bridging the gap between the data).
DAY 1 and 2 (Career Fair, Product and Organization Booth Exhibit)
In Day 1, there are booths for career fair and product exhibit. For me, it is the first time that there are some freebies like food and other souvenirs. Also, it looks like a student holiday for the SMIT Students because it is their time to explore new things and innovations those are related to business, management and Information Technology.
DAY 2 (July 25, 2015, ARG Theatre 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
Some topics are discussed in Day 2 of SMITensity Seminar in the ARG Theatre that is related in Human Resources and Climate Change. The first speaker is Ms. Valera, from the Climate Reality Project. She discussed the Cost of Carbon and the effects of Carbon Dioxide and Greenhouse Gases. She said about the movie An Inconvenient Truth is similar to the New York City Tragedy about Super Hurricane Sandy. According to her, the energy trapped by man-made resources is around 400 000 kJ. As she mentioned, May 2014 is the hottest month and Anderkadesh, India is the hottest place in May 2015. There are some sources of Greenhouse gases like coal mining, coal plants, permafrost, land and air transportation, industrial agriculture, forest fires, landfills and oil production.
