GoodShort has once again delivered a queer story about a consensual, nonabusive relationship, and I so appreciate that. (Thank you for listening to us!) “Straight Until He Kissed Me” is one of the best queer verticals so far. Much of that can be credited to the comedic talents of Evan Gambardella (Miles) and Greg Duffy (Hunter). Evan’s gift for physical comedy made him perfect for the role of Miles. Miles is a total chaos magnet, and he spends the entire story careening from one unlikely, dangerous scenario to another. Some might find such a person exhausting to be around, but Hunter is apparently something of a thrill seeker—he’s a rock climber—and Greg convincingly portrays him as being initially bewildered yet intrigued by Miles’s antics, and then completely infatuated (but totally awkward about it) as he gets to know Miles better. Credit for SUHKM’s success must also be given to the actresses who brilliantly played Kate, Amber, and Fiona, and also the rest of the cast. Everyone contributed to making this one of the best vertical comedies out there. I look forward to seeing them all in future projects.
