Living Next Door to Alice, Smokie (1977)
I first heard this song, in this version (Pub version), over a German radio station taking a bus from Germany to Hungary, and we were hooked. When we eventually got to Bosnia and Camp Demi we were asked to provide call signs for our units, sections, teams and so on. Our company was "Spartan", the commander was a Michigan State Alumni so the company went with that as did 3 of the 4 platoons. Not first platoon we went with "Alice". The Task Force Commander for TF 1-41 Infantry (Operation Joint Guard) loved it and we were the only platoon and squad sized elements in the entire task force to have a non-standardized naming convention. I was Alice P105 Actual. (P105 was the gun trucks number, oh those early days of the XM-1114's)
