I don't want to smoke your cigarettes
I’m a New Yorker and currently on a vacation in Miami. While New York is cleaning up snow, I’m sitting on a beach soaking up the sun and listening to the sounds of waves crashing. Not too bad.
Last night my girlfriend and I decided to go out and enjoy some of the Miami nightlife with a couple of her friends. Our first stop was Mansion (a suggestion from a friend). While heading to the line we met a bunch of ladies who pulled us in the line with them. They were excited to get in and to start dancing so they began yelling “come on, let us in”. At that point the bouncer came over and said “ladies we are going to let you in but you can’t keep yelling”. So I replied “we just want to get in there and dance”. Then this lovely gentleman looked at me and said “if you want to dance, Twist (a local gay bar) is down the street” and then he walked away. So I took his offensive advice and headed to Twist with my girlfriend and her friends.
Twist was a fun time. I loved it as did the rest of my party.Different rooms playing different kinds of music. We all danced like crazy. So I’d like to thank that bouncer for his rude remark because we all had a blast at Twist and would definitely go back.
I do however have one complaint. Not about Twist specifically but about Smoking in the Bars and Clubs down here. I guess since I’m a New Yorker and most of my bar/club life has been in the post smoking ban days, I’ve gotten used to enjoying the smoke free environment. Last night I had a taste of what smoking in bars is like. I think I tried every kind of cigarette out there, second hand of course. I left the bar smelling like an ashtray, coughing up a storm and this morning I woke up with a sore throat. It’s pretty disgusting.
I have nothing against smokers. If that’s what you want to do then do it. I just don’t like being in a bar or club and breathing in your smoke. New Yorkers are forced to go outside and smoke in the most extreme weather and down here it’s beautiful most of the year but people choose to stay inside and smoke and let everyone else breathe it in. Well I think Mayor Bloomberg had it right with the Smoking Ban in the bars of New York and hopefully other cities will follow in his footsteps. I’m sorry Miami but I don’t want to smoke your cigarettes. Time for a change.
