Egg 51!!!! At long, long last, she has returned to me.
… Now I have to actually finish the game with this team.
Egg 50: Still no shiny Smoochum.
Eggs 28-34: Still no shiny Smoochum. I have achieved several non-shiny Smoochum, as well as multiple shiny Elekid and Magby, at least one shiny Cleffa, and yesterday where none of them were shiny but I did hatch like, four Tyrogue out of six eggs and three were in a row, and I’m pretty sure my first Igglybuff were both today.
I am beginning to develop muscle memory for the Route 34-Goldenrod City stretch.
Our first shiny comes in at Egg #5 with Magby!
Me, checking the stat screen to be sure it’s shiny:… Huh, it’s female.
Bro: Huh, that’s cool. I had one of those. (More specifically, he has a shiny female Magmar, as he doesn’t care for Magmortar.)
Me: Yeah, pretty neat. *Beat* Still erasing it from existence, though.
Bro: Oh yeah, reset that.
Since I already have a male shiny Magby, not even the mild “huh, that’s cool” is worth a FULL game reset for.
I’ve got an approximately 2% chance of getting the specific combination I want, so I’m expecting to be here a while. Bro’s guessing around 80. I’m hoping it’s under 100.
First two Dizzy Punch eggs were a Tyrogue and Elekid, no shiny (which makes my life easier, really, because if I get a shiny I don’t have already I’ll have to decide what to do with it - those would be Igglybuff, Cleffa, and Elekid in addition to the desired Smoochum.)
And now I need to give my thumb a break.
To make a long story short, you actually CAN manipulate the Gold/Silver/Crystal VC clock by manipulating the 3DS’s, but I’m pretty sure it only goes forward and I’m pretty sure it’s not immediate. Which has proven somewhat inconvenient, as I need two Pokemon who appear at night and am not a morning person and am now about twelve hours in the future (in-game) relative to reality. But I’m pretty sure Oddish wouldn’t have been THAT helpful ahead of Whitney (beyond potential immunity to Attract, but ultimately my Wooper’s Mud Slap meant that wasn’t a problem the way Milk Drink was. WHY does that have such high PP?)
It’s probably not a GOOD idea to clear everything through Sudowoodo ahead of a segment I intend to reset repeatedly for, potentially including the entire game if necessary, but here we are.
Time for Smoochum.
Given I have a limited timeframe and am going to be, at MINIMUM, resetting a random-chance egg until it gives me a specific combo of shiny and Pokemon, and who knows what I’ll do if I get a shiny Cleffa or something from that egg BEFORE the Smoochum, I think I’m just gonna make as much progress as I can tonight and catch my Birb tomorrow.
Which means I also had enough time to think over, before catching it, the fact that the nickname for my original Pidgeot was SO embarrassingly childish I didn’t want to use it as an adult even beyond some of the nicknames I AM replicating so these Pokemon can serve as recreations of the originals, and come up with a workaround that is clearly derived from it but which I don’t cringe using. I do renicknaming on evolution sometimes anyway.
… You know, it makes SENSE that I can’t mess with VC Crystal’s internal clock by messing with my 3DS’s, once I think about it, but it does amuse me that I tried, and it does not work.
